ok.... I got a foto adaptor and some canon fd lenses...when I attach the adaptor and the lens on to the camera and turn the camera on, it say: PLEASE CHECK THAT LENS IS ATTACHED CORRECTLY ON THE LCD............

OK.. wht do I have to do, do I have to change anything in the camera?

menu button > custom menu > shoot without lens (last option on the 5th page)

set this to on and you will be fine

Sometimes I forget to switch on the shoot w/o lens option when I switch from FDs and the kit lens and I think after a few seconds it changes automatically because I never have to do it anymore.

Is there any reason not to leave the Shoot W/O lens option on all the time?

i dont see there being a reason.
& i dont plan on taking mine out of SWOL mode, as 90% of the time
im shooting with my Canon FDs. i cant see there being any draw backs

I can fathom that if the kit lens is borked it will not report back lack of control over aperture or auto focus but I suspect most of us here would notice such a error fairly quickly anyway. :)

FD mount and Shoot without lens option

FD mount and Shoot without lens option

Hi there,

Despite reading all the threads relating to this I can't get my FD adaptor and lens to work properly. I've gathered that of course you need the shoot without lens option ON and I've also encountered threads suggesting taking it off any automatic settings. None of these have worked for me.

Basically with no lens on the camera it works but as soon as I put my adaptor on, the screen goes black and then a few seconds later the dreaded "check your lens message appears". What I have noticed is the small protruding bit of metal next to the lens release button gets depressed when the mount goes on and the screen goes black.

Is there another setting somewhere I'm missing...?

There should be a little notch in the adapter that allows the little tab to click in. If not, you might need to return that adapter. Maybe they forgot to machine that slot. If you have the lens and adapter off and you hold that little tab down, will it give you the same message?
