ACTOR + Film Like?

Not sure. But I took the video into vegas and exported it as a small quicktime, then it worked great.

So I guess I need to post some comments on it, huh?

The lighting wasn't bad, I prefer the more high contrast looks, but for this, I don't think it would suit it as well.

The acting was a whole lot better than anything I've been able to get out people up here. But when you said "cash register" it kinda sounded like "cash reshishter". Other than that it was fine.

Nice acting, that is a troubled character indeed... :)

Now I could see sweat under your armpits :) Where was costumes/makeup? (I can't believe there is not a winking smiley in this board...)

Seriously, It's always handy to have a hairdryer with you on set...

Lighting looks good to me. If you really want to improve, step behind the camera and find some nubile actresses to put in front of it.

Dude Matt, you remind me of those dudes on the OC. I guess that can be a good thing if you like the OC. Anyway, I guess it was alright, its really hard to tell on this 64 meg laptop. For some reason the video was playing back at 1 frame every 8 secs. Weird! I can hear the audio which was standard. The lighting did not bother me at all. I thought it looked perfectly fine. Keep it up man, looks very promising. :)

For acting, set a mark on the floor and then turn the monitor around -- you are way too hypnotized by the monitor (but narcissism seems to be a common trait in the actors I know). It may help to pick a mark on the wall for your eyes too.

As for delivery, it reminds me of the Disney channel/Boy Meets World.

It appears your monitor is not calibrated properly; the bars are black for me and I'm pretty sure I locked on.

How would I go about fixing this problem then?

If it was a monitor calibration problem, wouldn't the black background of my media player match the black in the video?

Google Monitor Calibration. Tons of articles on HOW TO

DO you have an NLE with the NTSC Bars?

THe SCREENSHOT looks good because my MONITOR is CALIBRATED.

I have run through a few of the things that came up on google, but no difference so far.

No, I don't have an NLE (yet).

I think the lighting was really solid. Any changes would have been to just reflect the mood you wanted. If this was the mood you intended then it worked.

The placement of the key light didn't bother me in the least. The distance between the actor and the window and the darkness of the room the window was in makes me think that it isn't a practical source for the light. It could have been a little softer to help the hard shadow under the actors chin but thats minor. I also don't think that the light source had to be driven by a practical light. In this short scene it really doesn't matter what the light is coming from.

I really liked the back light. Just enough on the hair and shoulder. Overall I'd say it worked. Easily better looking than a lot of washed out lighting I see in short films all the time. Like someone mentioned, it does look like something you would see on the OC. Quite a compliment.

I also had a problem with the frames lagging so I can't really critique the acting. It sounded above par but not great. I don't think it's an appropriate monologue to judge someones acting though. It only had one direction so it doesn't give us much to see. Try something that shows a variety of range.

Now you have to tell...are you the actor?

muhahaha, it's the mystery of the day. Well for trying not to get a biased opinion so far, yes I am the actor. (the avatar is the dead giveaway) But don't let that stop you all from insulting, commenting, or critiquing the littlest of things. That's why I am here, not only can you guys give me you technical opinion, but your personal opinions as well. This site is so awesome, and I appreciate all of your unique individual takes on everything I do. It can only make our qualities better! So keep em comn' cuz there's more on the way!:D

the acting was good. it didn't feel completely natural, but it wasn't bad acting at all. maybe run through the lines a few more times until it feels right. certainly better than i could ever do on a solo project.

the lighting was a little flat for my taste. like someone mentioned before, it was more sitcom than drama feeling.

compositionally, your mark should have been more to the right of this locked down frame. too much empty space to your back. not always the case, but if you're looking off to the left of frame, then let that side carry most of the weight.

as a test shot it's good, but if this is for an acting demo reel, then consider cutting to some different angles or have someone do a handheld version for you and take it off sticks. overall it was too static for the dramatic monologue. an intense delivery needs to be matched with intense motion. just a little movement in the frame would have helped this.

thanks for sharing. this helps us all. can't wait to see more.

I take it back...it doesn't look like a scene from the OC...

It looks like a scene from Summerland...
