GH4 Active universal EF > MFT Speedbooster on its way?

No idea where to post this, sorry!

With the announcement of an active Speedbooster giving full function to EF lenses on the BMPCC, can we expect a universal MFT version to be on its way? If so... how long?

I'd love to be able to have an active Speedbooster to allow me to use EF lenses on the GH4...

Im going to guess "no."
No one has yet solved the NATIVE m4/3 mount to EOS mystery.
I'll bet $1 that the BMPCC is just speaking native EOS through the SpeedBooster contacts, and not actively translating m4/3 protocol to EOS.
Until Panasonic puts the EOS protocol in the bios, we are out of luck.

Pretty sure metabones is working on this. They had one in the works for EF to m43 used on the the BMPCC which I believe EOSHD.com tested a week back.

Again, I think that the BM cameras are speaking native EOS through the adaptors, no translation. Thats a big difference. BM cameras, like RED, are already able to speak native EOS, relatively simple to route those signals through a mechanical mount.
If someone really has cracked the code, why would their first product be for a camera line that has 1/10 of the user base? Between the AF100 and GH series cameras, the market would be HUGE for a true m4/3 to EOS adaptor that allows the m4/3 camera to control the EOS lens electronics. Been more than a few products announce and die after a few years of delays.
Don't get me wrong, I have a big investment in AF100s and GH cameras, I'd love to see it.

According to EOSHD.com, the BMPCC EOS ---> m43 adapter was completed first because of the smaller user base, so if bugs appear as the product is released they will be easier to fix. The GHx EOS ---> m43 adapter is going to be a very big deal, so it has to be more or less bug free when it comes to market.

Interesting theory. But I'd buy that if this adapter were made by BM, who would obviously have included the EOS code as a back door to access this down the road. But Merabones is a totally different company, and I'm not entirely sure they worked together or even consulted each on this product.

But the bigger reveal is that one of the early reviewers got a beta unit (it was either Phillip Bloom or EOSHD) that didn't have other cameras locked out yet. The finished product displays an error when mounted on the gh4, but the initial test version did not. And I think he reported that some lenses worked with it on the gh4 but not others. And ttherefore, the reason they locked it out was because it was more complicated to adapt to Panasonic bodies than BMs for some reason.

I don't full understand it either to be honest... The Panasonic and Olympus bodies should be the MOST standard, since they helped design the mount and it's protocols. But that's what I was toll is going on, and the standard m43 adapter is forthcoming.

The problem is most likely trying to decide Panasonics lens communications protocol, which has nothing to do with m4/3, or EOS.

Birger Engineering announced they were working on an active EF>m4/3 adapter back in Q4 of 2010 but never brought anything to market. After numerous announcement & no delivery all they built was lots of ill will.

a) I don't think it's that difficult to get ahold of Panasonic's lens protocol. Olympus, Sigma, and others have done it.

b) Panasonic is a supporter of the Metabones Speed Booster, so I think they'd be happy to work with MB to get it working.

there is a big difference between Olympus and Sigma making lenses that speak MFT and a company trying to translate MFT language to EOS language.

saying that, I think it will be done.

I'm 100% with you on that. I was saying that in multiple instances Panasonic PR guys have raved about the MB Speed Booster; so I'm confident Panasonic would be more than happy to give support on their end.

I fear that Canon is not so excitable, but then again, Metabones managed it with the new BMPCC model. It would seem that if Panasonic is willing (how could they not be) they have everything they need to produce an active Speedbooster for the GH4.
