you dont really NEED that kind of baseplate. in over a decade of shooting ive never personally run into a situation of a damaged camera bottom. and unless you are using a 35mm adapter setup, the offset mounting screw on the 170 shouldnt ever be a problem.

if you ever do get a 35mm adapter setup, you can address the offset with the baseplate you get for your rails

yeah i know but its nice to have, an i wont be getting a 35mm adapter for a long time , jus gunna buy a canon 7d for my stills so i can learn photography and do some nice dof video.

i find the spec-comm batteries to be superb, and nearly always in stock:

i dont know how it translates to comparative real world use. but their specs are better than the dvxuser battery.
i have 2 of them and they just go and go and go...

I understand a good light kit is good to get but what kind of hot shoe light
should i get for my hpx/7d? a nice led one?

I want a decent rail/mattebox setup not too expensive.
any name brands that do the job?

i was also going to get a 4ft Glidetrack.
