AC90 vs Z10000

Hello, all!

The coverage of the Z10000 seems surprisingly thin, so I'm curious about something.

The AC90 and Z10000 seem very similar in construction, and from what I've read, have some of the same technology behind them. Does anyone know how the AC90 compares to the 2D performance of the Z10000?

If the performance is similar, I will feel even better about my purchase of the Z10000.

Thanks!
Chris

Yes the two cameras are very similar in 2D. but there are WA adapters that work on the AC90.

Other than that. the pictures are very similar.

Best,

Jan

Thanks for the response, Jan!

Are the lenses in the Z10000 responsible for the performance hit, or would you say there is a performance hit?

I hate to ask such elementary questions, but the Z10000 seems to be a strange stepchild in that there isn't a lot of analysis of that camera. Which is surprising given its many professional-grade features.

Hi Jan, One more question about the Z10000. I NEED a camera as soon as possible. I am now waiting for the AC90, (but that will take another 2,5 weeks). I just read this topic.

How exact similar are the camera's ?
Is the Z10000 better or are somethings also better on the AC90 (because a newer model with newer technology)?
I couldn't find this website for the AC90
http://www.panasonic.nl/html/nl_NL/...ecifications/238203/index.html?trackInfo=true

So could you please confirm this (or say when I am wrong)

Z10000 vs AC90
3D +2D vs 2D
1/4 3MOS (x2) vs 1/4.7!! 3MOS??
AVCHD 2.0 vs AVCHD 1.0
3MOS vs BSI 3MOS sensor
OIS vs 5 axis OIS

Is the rest the same? Dynamic range, LUX,?
Z10000 can also shoot 1080 50P in 2D?
I could buy the Z10000 now, that would be a plus!
Hope you have a spare minute (also for the other post I wrote)

Here is the Specs page on the AG-AC90

Here is the Specs page on the HDC-Z10000

The primary difference will be the lens length, but not by much as the lens length does get longer on the 2D side of the camera.

The Z10000 nor the AC90 is swtichable between the 60 and 50 Hz. It is one or the other. In the 2D mode they can do 50 or 60P respectively like the AC90.

The same image stabilizer.

the same chip set.
Both do AVCHD 2.0 and the 3D is AVCHD 2.0 3D

Unfortunately the first link is redirected to the main panasonic.com consumer web site. Here are two additional links that seem to work:

Actually the two links I posted are the exact ones that I wanted to post. They are the Panasonic US site. Unfortunately many folks see me as Panasonic and think that I ame a world wide support person. I am not. I am in the USA and the resources I use are the ones that I helped to put together. One of the sites you point to is I believe a Japanese site, but I am not really certain. The two pages I posted at the Tech Spec pages from the US Panasonic site.

Best,

Jan

There is something else I am curious about. Right now I am hauling around an AF100, a Z10000, an HPX170, a GH2, and a Canon T2i.

I also have an Atomos Samurai. Using an Atomos HDMI to SDI converter, would the 2D Z10000/Atomos combo (or AC90/Atomos combo) deliver better results than the HPX170/Atomos combo? I am curious as to whether or not I could retire the HPX170 except when I'm having rolling shutter issues.

The AC90 with Samurai would provide much sharper, crisper, cleaner, smoother footage than the HPX170 would, as long as the light was bright enough. But the HPX170 is rated at 500 ISO, the AC90 is 40 ISO, so there's a big difference in sensitivity.

In bright light conditions, with an external recorder, the AC90 will deliver incredibly sharp images.

Thanks, Barry! That is a very important point! I was thinking only in terms of actual resolved lines and sharpness. I didn't think to check the difference in sensitivity, and didn't expect such a difference.

@ Jan,

i terms of the color sampling of the hdmi output, the AC90 delivers 4:2:2 as Barry has shown in his great review. Is there any difference to the Z10000? Thank you.
