AC160 AC160 "COM" warning

I just got my camera back from Panasonic service in LA. I had it upgraded to the turbo zoom option and a switch replaced.

But there is a flashing "COM" warning in the viewfinder. I went through the manual, but I can't find any warning that references it. It seems to be recording and playing back fine.

Anybody run into this?

I also have an ACTIVATE menu that I haven't seen before. It's also not mentioned in the latest manual.

Thanks

John

Hi John,
I am waiting on my 160 to come back from Panasonic for the upgrade as well.
Could that COM warning have something to do with the wifi setting . I think that is a feature in the newest firmware update for the 160A. I'm assuming that they do the firmware update when they do the turbo focus upgrade??????
Just guessing
Tony

I remember reading about ACTIVATE. Can't find anything on it. It may have had something to do with a wireless transmitter that Panasonic described at one point but no sign of that either except at page 8 of the following where there is mention of a software upgrade key called AG-SFU160G (Eye-Fi)

https://panasonic.ca/English/Broadcast/broadcast/DVFormat/pdf/B_AVCCAM_PE5.pdf

I have never seen a COM warning on my viewfinder.

It will be interesting to hear what you manage to find out about these two "features"

These are notes from Barry's feedback, so it looks like a "just in case for later" menu. "Your instincts are correct, it's for activating optional firmware updates. On the original AF100, 1080/60p PS doesn't exist, but you can buy a firmware update package from Panasonic and "activate" it to add PS mode to your menus. So the "activate" menu item you've found is the process by which someone would go about adding 1080/60P to an original AF100. If there are any other, future optional firmware updates made available, you would use the activate menu to enable those functions. Since your AF100A already comes with that 1080/60P menu item, there's not really anything useful your "activate" menu will do right now, until (if) another future firmware update comes out."

Thanks everyone.

Turns out it was stuck in a maintenance mode. And the Activate menu is still there as Rod pointed out. I guess it's to activate functions like the wifi enable that Walter referenced.

Cheers

The "Activate" menu option is to activate the feature that allows an Eye-Fi SD card to work, to send your footage over WiFi.

To get rid of the flashing "COM" message on the AC160, hold RESET/TC SET, up on the joystick, and EXEC all at the same time, for more than three seconds.
