AC130: AC130 Warranty Transfer?

When I purchased my AC130, I signed up for the 3 year Warranty at the http://panasonic.biz/sav/pass_e/ URL. I'm in negotiations to sell the camera (I still think it's a great camera, but need the $$ to purchase other photographic equipment).

Can I transfer this warranty to the new owner? If so, how?

The warranty card that came with my AC130 purchased in the USA includes this statement:

"This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser and is non transferable."

This, of course, based on Lance's comment might not work but it's worth a shot!! When I sold my 130's (just didn't like them) I logged into the pass site and removed the 130's from my registration without any issue and then added my new Panasonic cameras..NOW, I never tried re-registering them as I didn't have to but the new owner might have done it?? It's worth a shot to get the new buyer to set up their own pass account and then register the cameras but make sure that you actually remove them from your account first!! For what it's worth I have been a Panasonic user since the early '90's and have never had to submit a warranty repair to them...as long as the cameras work well when you get them they seem to go on for ever!!!

The extended warranty might also be a different thing to the initial warranty..mine had a manuafacturers warranty of 12 months but by registering them in your pass account they extend to 3 years.

Hmmm... thanks for the replies, however I'm still somewhat confused. I know some Panasonic folks tune in to this forum - I'd like to get the official response. Jan Crittenden?

btw: This was U.S. purchased from B&H and the new owner is also in the U.S.

There is no way that any Panasonic employee is going to say anything contrary to what the official warranty card states. That just won't happen. Jan does not have any authority to modify or change the terms of the warranty.

Did you misplace your warranty card? The card goes on to further explain that in order to get any warranty service, a customer has to include a photocopy of their receipt or invoice as proof of purchase.

If Chris is correct that an owner can actually delete their registration records, then maybe there is a way that the system could be tricked and fooled. But that would involve deleting the old registration to you, and then entering a new registration for the new owner. Then if the new owner ever needed warranty service, he would also have to create a falsified sales invoice, and send that in with the camcorder too.

Lance, you sound rather condescending in your reply. Please re-read my posts. I don't think there's any suggestion that I'm attempting to do anything underhanded.

I don't recall submitting a warranty card. Nor do I recall seeing the terms of that warranty. I know you posted that the card stated that the warranty is not transferrable, and I appreciate your input, however...

I do recall submitting an online request for the 3 year warranty. I was under the impression that this was separate & distinct from the "normal" factory warranty - maybe not. When returning to the site, I cannot find the terms of the warranty (i.e. whether it is transferrable). I'm not asking Panasonic to circumvent the terms of the warranty - I'm just trying to understand what the terms of the online, 3 year warranty are. If they are transferrable, I would like to transfer the warranty to the new owner. Possibly, they are the same as those you stated in your earlier post?? How can I be sure of that? That's what I was suggesting the Panasonic folks might be able to tell me.

Hi Jerry

The guys at PASS are very contactable and also respond quickly! I had an original issue when I tried to register my original HMC72's with them in 2009 and they gave me great assistance so I would shoot them an email from the site and wait for their reply.

Thanks Chris, I just went back to the PASS site and noticed an "Inquiry" button that I'd overlooked before. I think I'll send my question thru this channel.

If you don't want to believe me, that is fine. Unlike you, I have the warranty card here with me.

I will agree to mail you $100 if Jan chimes in here and tells you that you can transfer the warranty to another person. It is most obvious from reading the Panasonic warranty card that is simply not allowed.
