with post production?

Thanks

Just look on YouTube for Twixtor (software) & Phantom ("real") slow motion videos. Though the Phantom is very extreme as it can do military grade research quality slow motion, & it costs as much to rent one for a day as it does to own a 130.

Though in my opinion the 160 VFR is much more than slow motion as it has a real range of frame rates. VFR is great if you're doing a music video & want to "slow down" or "speed up" reality by 10% ... 50% ...

Keep in mind the 130 does 720p60, which you can easily slow down to 720p24 for some pretty nice slow motion. So if you are just looking at slow motion & not really VFR you have to ask yourself if 720p60 is good enough for what you want. The 160 can do 1080p60, so all you're gaining is resolution, but not any frame rate.

A couple things to keep in mind too is that the P2 cameras & XDCam EX cameras only do VFR up to 60fps in 720 & not 1080, but the Sony EX cameras can adjust in frame by frame increments vs a bunch of pre-set frame rates as in the Panasonic cameras.

ya good to know, ive pretty much made up my mind, if im able to sell my Hpx170 and canon 60d within next month ill probably end up getting the ac130 for $3500.

Thanks for info!

I'm looking into the 130/160 as well - but not sure if VFR is that important to me. I'd like to be able to slow things down on occasion, but in post is fine with me.

Can you shoot in 720p60 and slow it down 50% to 720p30, or just 720p24? What other speeds would look decent?

VFR is a lot more than just slow motion. Any camera that can record 720p60, you can slow that down to 24fps or 30fps for slow motion.

VFR is a lot more of shooting in either slow or fast at 50% 200% speed where you'll really notice a difference, but also things like (aprox) 110% or 90% where the speed is more minimal. (Great for a music videos where you want the person just slightly off speed, but not drastically.)

The Sony EX1 / EX3 cameras can do VFR at increments of 1 frame, so you can do something like 11fps or 13fps instead of 12fps.

While the AC160 has only pre-set fps that you can choose, there are a lot of options: 2/6/9/12/15/18/20/21/22/24/25/26/27/28/30/32/34/36/40/44/48/54/60 (at 1080p30 or 1080p24).

If you're really looking at slow motion, the great thing the 160 can offer vs other cameras is that it can record 1080p60 where most other cameras can only do 720p60 or 1080p30.
