AC130: AC130 1080/50P recording

Is it likely to expect an update for the AC130 to record in 1080/50p? You can find it on lower priced models of Panasonic (e.g. the AC90).
But is it really necessary to have 1080/50p?

Best, Ron

No, the AC130 does not have it and will not get it. That's one of the differentiating factors between the AC160 and the AC130.

If you require 1080/60p, then that would be the way to get it. You'd also be getting NTSC/PAL switchability, variable frame rates, SDI output, and the option of uncompressed audio.

Since the 130 is not able to shoot in 1080/50p, I wonder if it is worth to sell the and go for the 160?

As someone who delivers to European TV markets, I would say that with the new EBU HDTV directive specifying 50p, it is pretty much imperative that your camera can shoot at 50p if you have any plans of having your stuff shown in PAL/EBU/50 Hertz television markets. Otherwise, you do not need it.

With Panasonic, very few of their Lumix-series digital cameras are international multi-standard capable for worldwide use. Seems to me that with their AG-series, the AC90 and AC130A are either NTSC or PAL, but not both, whereas the AC160A and the HPX250 are multti-standard and multi frame rate, like most if not all of the Sony cameras/camcorders are today.

So, another way I look at it, if you get an AC160A or HPX250, you do not have to cart around with your two camcorder bodies to be ready for any shooting scenarios, one 25/50 and the other 30/60, like you would have to do with AC90 and AC130A. Barry would know this much much better than anyone, of course.
