AC130: AC-130 audio setting for 1KHz calibration tone?

I have just started using my AC130 with a MixPre-D field mixer. The mixer emits 1 1KHz tone that can be used to calibrate a camera to the mixer. I have been calibrating by setting the camera to manual audio gain, emitting the tone, and then adjusting the audio gain on the camera to the hash marks on the audio meter on the LCD screen. This process seems to work okay.

I've just been told that I should actually be using a -20 dB setting on the camera for the calibration, and that the hash marks on the AC130's audio meters are set to a -12 dB signal. I have confirmed that the hash marks are set to -12 dB.

What's the best practice for performing this calibration? Are the hash marks okay, or should I be calibrating to -20 dB? If I should be calibrating to -20 dB, how do I display the gain numerically, so that I can adjust the cameras gain to that level when calibrating? Thanks for your help.
