about to take plunge on Nikon 35 and 50mm: which manual or auto?

Hello everyone,

Now that I have my GH1 and just ordered the Novoflex adapter for Nikon to GH1, I'm about to purchase two Nikon lenses: a 35mm and 50mm.

Should I get the auto-focus version of these lenses or the manual versions.

Granted the manual ones are far more expensive and have lower f-stops.

So would I be doing myself a disservice if I purchased the auto-focus 35mm and 50mm lenses?

Here are my choices:

and

or

and

Any advice would be very much appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

- Nick

Just remember with the crop factor those are 70mm and 100 mm lenses now. you might want to get something a bit wider.

Also why not buy used Ai or Ais lenses for much cheaper?

An auto focus nikon will not auto focus on a GH1 so you will end up using the lens manually.
If the same lens is available used in very good condition you should buy it as they are not only retaining their value but in some cases they are going up in value.

Thanks again.

It now looks very difficult to purchase a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 manual lens. It seems BH Photo Video and Amazon no longer carry this manual lens.

But I happen to also have three Zeiss ZF lenses: 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4 Planar T, 85mm f/1.4

What adapter would I need to mount these lenses to my GH1?

I was thinking that maybe I shouldn't buy the Novoflex Nikon adapter after all but instead buy the adapter for Zeiss ZF lenses?

I may be wrong, but I think the Novoflex for Nikon would be what you want for your Zeiss ZF lenses, which I believe are a Nikon mount.

The new Novoflexes have been announced, but are not yet shipping. This was all I could find on them:

If I'm wrong about the Novoflex for Nikon being the right adapter for the Zeiss ZF lenses, please someone let me know because I have this adapter on pre-order specifically for a Zeiss ZF lens. Thanks.
