Abnormal noise

I was recording my son the other day with the hmc and the letus.. and noticed an abnormal amount of noise. i took out the letus and shot with it again and noticed the same thing.

I tried so many settings but same thing. I look at everyone else's footage here and it looks CLEAN. What am I doing wrong? or is it something within the camera itself?

oh i'm sorry.. i searched all of the forum and bought the hmc150 book by Barry.. tried a lot of awesome presets but all of them come out with some noise like the one above.

so i know its not any of the settings in the hmc?

are you transcoding your footage? have you played your footage back from camera to tv and if so does it still have all that noise? that doesnt look like normal camera noise.

im not a pro but i had teh same problems. there are several things which affect the noise.

reset the camera in the menu and try setting the camera to manual and be sure the gain switch is all the way up. set the scene file to f5 and lower the detail to sth like -4 and put the coring up to 4. while shooting make sure your scene is exposed correctly. low light generates grain/noise. also shooting at 720p60 with shutter 1/60 helps. with these settings i get a pretty nice image.

there a lot of posts about grain. try searching for noise/grain ..

^^ awesome tips. I'll try this. What if I'm shooting 1080p24?

you know i have tried every single thing from resetting the camera to black balance and different scene settings and i have had the camera for about a year now and i still cannot get rid of the noise. Even if i blast a scene like a small room with a arri 1k and an arri 650 i'll still get noise. This is really starting to annoy me now. sorry for jacking this thread but i did not want to start a new one because there is so many of them complaining about the same thing. btw with or without my sgblade my noise/grain is about the same. I would like to stick with cinilike d because i want more room in post so if anyone has any suggestions i really would appreciate it

Thanks
Ninos

Have you checked where your gain is set? You might be at Medium or something and in the menu, you can adjust how much gain (3-12db) is assigned to Medium and High. Maybe it's higher than you want.

Menu > SW Mode > Mid/High Gain

Hey thanks for the tip robert, yeah i checked and its set to off. ill check what the medium and high are although i never touch my gain settings as i hate gain.

Yeah, I mean... if you want, try to soften the image. All of my stuff that isn't somewhat grainy was done with good light. I mean, thats the last thing I can suggest, and in the shot above, it doesn't seem to fit there. The last thing I'd try is scene file F6 which I use which gives a flat look to stuff for easy color correction. Otherwise, I mean, it is what it is.

If you are using a Letus, the problem is probably the Letus. Do you have the same result without the Letus?

If not, be sure to have your ground glass on and to have the proper shutter speed. I read in another thread that these could solve similar problems.

Looks like sensor/signal noise, not something with the GG. He said that he tried it without :|

Is there anything else?

Hello,

I have the same noise problem, although I followed your advices.
Setting the scene files, control the gain settings, so on. Nothing helped. Especially in the dark areas of the picture you can see the noise. See it on the screen the noise is "moving"...
Any idea?

Thanks,

page 83 initialize ......
also black balancing helps alot

Is there a proper way to set the black balance? All I can find is to hold the botton down. Do you need something black to fill the frame while holding the button down?

That's the way to do it !
I believe it closes the iris and turns the "view" black so the camera can black balance.

I've been having the same issue and have tried all the solutions posted here with no improvement. Could we have a bad batch of sensors?

Yes, I think so.
I've tried anverything, like reseting (intializing) the menue, checking gain, optimize the scene settings. Nothing works. My pictures are still with noise.
What can I do?
Has anyone experience with the Pana customer support?
