A7s V 1.10 firmware update

No way to update firmware from a Mac?

Use Bootcamp or Fusion. They both work great on newer Macs. I use it to program Drones all the time. It actually works better than my HP for this. And it is great to have bothh a fast Mac and a Fast PC in one small laptop, or any Mac for that matter...

If there was a way to install bootcamp/windows on an external drive that would have been great. Only have 256gb SSD internal so can't waste space on windows that I only use occasionally.

Just performed the firmware upgrade. Boot time from off to operation is almost instantaneous now. Menu system navigation feels a lot faster but may be my imagination.

Updating the firmware is non-intuitive at points in the process. At one point, the firmware updater asks you to unmount the camera as a storage device (I did a simple right click > Eject" on the storage icon in Windows Explorer) and then "click OK" on the camera and then it goes into the firmware update process that takes 10 minutes or so. Unmounting the camera and then clicking OK on the camera feels counter-intuitive but it has to be done to proceed.

Go slow and be careful. You could easily brick your camera in this process. The near instant on to full operation is nice though. You need to use a Windows machine (real or virtual).

EDIT:

One more thing... I tried doing the update on my primary production machine that has a gazilion devices on it and the firmware software updater was sputtering. Went to a laptop that has very little on it and no USB devices and things went smoothly.

The boot up time is one of my biggest annoyances with the camera so it sounds like it's well worth doing.

Anyone know if it's different updaters for different regions? I have the Hong Kong version...

Anyone have any luck updating the firmware on the mac.
It sees my camera as a mass storage device but can't get to the next stage.

I updated my A7s on a Mac fine, but have to do it twice.

The .dmg opens fine and I followed the instruction, but half way through the updating, the app comes out with an error message and bricked my A7s with the red light under the SD card on. Camera was not responsive to anything including switching it on/off, take out battery. Then I started the app again and this time the firmware update was successful. Camera starts up much faster now, definitely recommend doing it.

Make sure you use a good USB cable, also the SD card in my camera was out when updating.

Hey there. I had some trouble on my macbook pro, but then I saw the updater only works for 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9, with my macbook being 10.10 Yosemite. It would never identify the camera. So I tried it on my hackintosh running 10.8 and it worked first try.

Yep.. that was it. It didn't work on yosemite, but worked perfectly on my other computer running 10.9.

3 months after the release of this camera, first firmware update only and really nothing really to be pleased and confident in Sony support if my decision to buy this camera. Disapointed...

What do you want?
If it starts up significantly faster then it's a good update as I see it.

Sony rather rarely add functionality to cameras in this price range. So I wouldn't expect too much.
