A7s Rig setup

I've been looking for a similar cage for my A6000. Looks like the Varavon would fit. Are people just using it handheld? Seems like it would be tricky to stabilize with just the cage or are folks sticking it on a monopod?

I've been using a monopod and getting really good results. I've also been using a shape handheld rig with a 24-105 and getting good results too.

For anyone using the Varavon cage...how are you monitoring the image? Some type of LCD loupe? Seems like the weight of the cage+audio gear+camera+LCD screen would be a lot to hand hold.

Looks like a great cage! I talked to VARAVON and they told me the XLR-K2M will fit with the cage. Im buying this one.

Hello:

Did you finally buy the Varavon? Could you share some pics of it with the XLR-K2M?

(I'm in the same situation as you, in that I have (or will have) the XLR-K2M, and every cage that I see has a top handle right on the hot shoe, and the possibility of removing it is… uncertain).

The Movcam handle is removable. Only two hex bolts to remove and it is off. The hotshoe, as most people know, is completely exposed allowing you to attach various hotshoe compatible devices.

The smallrig cage 1518 from coollcd had just arrived today, its cheap and does the job. I also bought two extra coldshoe mount as they often comes handy in rigging.

Two different mounting style for the juicedlink and sony mic from the F3. Got a lot of handling noise, so need to change the shock mount...

I got the movcam. Few complaints - I don't think you'll find something that's more "custom" to this camera; it's well thought out. My only real bug is the handle cannot be moved. It would be nice if you didn't have to disassemble the cage to get the camera in or out. Otherwise it's a work of art.

I use the Movcam cage myself. I quite like it. I added a cheap NATO rail top handle from Amazon for $70 because I needed the handle to be removable for the camera to store in my case.

Before the Movcam, I used Really Right Stuff's A7 L bracket + Lever clamp + Redrock's RRS baseplate. The setup is very solid and obviously tuned for switching between stills and video with one lever.

Unfortunately, both are quite expensive, all-in. Either way is going to cost you +$400.

The easiest way to match 2 cameras is to shoot a Macbeth chart and then go into Resolve and use the auto match feature and save the result as a LUT then use the LUT in the NLE. It will be very close. Different PP make a different LUT. Resolve does 90% of the work for you.

There are many different Macbeth charts that work with the Resolve feature, like x-rite. Go to colorgradingcentreal.com and watch the tutorial.

This will save you hours of headache.
