Which of the external recorders can record 4k / 2160p from the A7s?
Yes, we will have a solution.I think the Mitch (07q) said something like 'there is a route in the pipeline' -
S
Also note that the "10-bit" image on the right is initially compressed (in "4K") with the exact same codec, just downscaled 2x in each direction. Which is pretty much the practical situation we are gonna be in. It is worth noting that the better codec you use (ideally uncompressed), the more true tonal precision you gain in the downscale. (That's mentioned in the text, I believe).
@Squig: Well, I hope ProRes444 will hold. I just don't really believe it. s-log2 is quite flat. Some clever post-work can surely do wonders though.
Yes, we will have a solution.
When I can say that for sure, I will. Otherwise, all I can state is "soon".When Mitch? and when on the GH4?
Is anyone planning to offer a compact recording option for the A7s? Something small and discrete?

I wouldn't be too happy about a recorder that doesn't show me what it is actually recording. Kind of like recording audio without headphones: if there's a bad connection somewhere, you'll only find out back at home. A Ninja 3 with 4K recording, that's what I'll be waiting for.
I just got my A7s and I have the O7Q, so I will be starting extensive testing this week.
I plan on using the O7Q and the Shogun, there will be a path to get 4K recorded by the O7Q though I will not venture to guess how soon. But I think CD is very anxious to compete with Atmos so it may be sooner than you think. I also have a Black Magic recorder I will try out.
Of course I will be testing both the NanoFlash and Odyssey as a 1080 recorder first, I have the Shogun on order as well. I see the A7s as Bcam to the FS700 and then I need 2 recorders anyway. Though I keep hearing rumors of a much smaller 4K recorder from CD, I would love that and if it happens quickly maybe that will be the route to take.
Anyway I will be posting my test results here. As this is an 8Bit cam I have a feeling I will not be using S-log much except for very contrasty scenes. So I plan to spend time in my suite with scopes building PPs for most typical scenes, just like I have for every new cam.
Stay tuned for more...
Somebody posted a link to this video in the sample footage thread but nobody responded.
I think it's probably more relevant to this discussion anyway.
It's a moire test comparing GH4 internal 4k and the 4k output of the A7s. The A7s exhibits moire which is surprising.

The uploader has also posted a video describing how he is recording the 4k, which is fairly elaborate.

Could the method of recording be introducing the moire in the test?
