Some of the controls aren't as good. For example you can't use the onboard mic and an auxillary mic at the same time, you have to change to xlr in the menu and you can't control channel 1 and channel 2's levels independantly; meaning that whatever channel one's level is at, so is channel two's.
As far as the preamp quality I can't tell a difference, but the onboard mic seems noticeable better to my ears ( not that I will use it very much).
An A1 review in the German journal VIDEOAKTIV DIGITAL noticed significant audio hissing - compared to Sony FX7. Can anyone confirm this? If so, only for the onboard mic?
If you use two mics each one in a channel (CH1 and CH2 ) you can independently control the levels in each channel. Only if you use 1 mic in one channel and you want to 'split' that into 2 channels (CH1 and CH2), the levels cannot be changed in each channel separately.
There a few minor annoyances that got overlooked when developing this cam, many of which can be changed in firmware. We will have to wait and see if some of them will be fixed.
All in all, this camcorder blows me away. The footage is crazy good. I can't even believe how much it runs circles around my old dvx. I knew it would be a better camcorder, but it is in a whole different league. The downrezzed sd is clean and pristine and HD is mindboggling.
Besides the small concerns with audio controls, if you are considering this camcorder, don't hesitate.
