A1s to hdmi computer monitor?

Hi all,

I just got my A1s and finally have the pleasure to call myself an A1 forum member in full rights after a long time of being just an (avid) reader :)

I tried searching but couln't find an answer and I'm wondering what the best way is to hook up the A1s directly to a 1080p computer monitor that only has an HDMI and VGA inputs?

Am I gonna need a component-to-hdmi/vga converter or could I use the d-sub from A1 direct to VGA on the monitor? As far as I remember the VGA is standard def, only, no? Of course I'd like to be able to view the footage in hd..

I will appreciate any insight.

Cheers,

Darek

regardless of if you're using hdmi or vga, the resolution you get will depend on what your display is capable of and if it scales the picture internally. the advantage of hdmi is that it's digital, but the advantage in this case is nil since the component output is technically analog.

that component to hdmi should work too, and yes hdmi is definitely the more current and future-proof. when you look into buying converters, it'd be a good idea to get one with the least amount of lag. component to hdmi is techincally analog to digital conversion (component to vga stays analog), so it might introduce more of a delay, but that's all conjecture since i have no direct experience with one.

That clarifies a lot. Thanks again gazwsx!

Now my last question - does anyone know of an all-in-one solution capable of:

1) the above but

2) for 2 monitors (hooked up to one MacBook Pro) for comfortable Final Cut Pro editing (one of them, like Apple Cinema Display)...

3) serving as a "real-time" HD monitor of HD footage?

Something from AJA or BlackMAgic Design?

All-in-one (if one exists) should be more cost-effective, right?

the matrox mo2 mini should do the trick. it has component IN for non-hdmi cameras like the A1. If your hooking up solely to a HDMI 1080p monitor, it also has HDMI out for a preview monitor.

Thanks, re curly81

I think the matrox mini meets the #1 and 3 of my "wishes". After some reading, I think, for the #2 I would additionally have to get the matrox dual head2go..
