I screwed up. I taped a wedding with one camera in 24p and one in 24pa.
How do I fix this, how do I capture?
I'm not fussy as to a 29.97 or 23.98 timeline, I just need to edit it.
I feel like an idiot.
The way I would do it would be to capture the 24p in a 29.97 timeline & the 24pa in a 23.97 timeline, render out the 23.97 to an AVI file when it was completed then import the AVI file to the 29.97 timeline where you have the 24p footage & continue the job so all will match.
If you're using Vegas, EDIUS, or Premiere Pro CS3, you hve no issues. Just capture the footage and edit on a 24P timeline. All those editors know how to remove the pulldown on the fly.
capture both as regular 29.97 DV. you only get 24PA if you check advanced pulldown removal. otherwise 24p and 24pA are the same - they're both recorded to tape at 29.97
However, 24pA footage left as 29.97 might show a bit more of a strobe. Doing this is the EASIER way to go, but it's not necessarily the BETTER way to go.
Thanks ... that's what Adam74 said further up the thread.
So, now my only question is ... my 24p footage shows as 29.97 in the item properties.
That's fine but when I reverse telecine it now shows 24 not 23.98 in the item properties and when I drop it into a 23.98 timeline fcp wants to change the timeline to 24p. Is that OK? Can I mix 24 and 23.98 in a 23.98 timeline?
There's barely any difference between 23.98 and 24.00, but there IS a difference. If you didn't save copies of your original footage, I'd strongly suggest that you capture again and re-run Cinema Tools according to the article at the link above.
