A victimless crime

oh to be 14 again.

Errr...wait... I guess that never happened to me. BUT, my football slash science teacher did have sex with a friend of mines sister. He was 28 at the time, she was 15. And I don't think anything ever came out of it (pun). And now she's married to another friend of mine! I forgot all about that...

I do side with this being wrong though. I read an article in Rolling Stone a couple of months ago about this happening to the star high school football player. He got obsessed with her, and it eventually changed his course of life for the worse. Kid probably would have gone on to do great things, and now he lives in a crummy apartment and dreams of the "good ol days."

EDIT: found the article. It's an interesting read and will open some eyes I'm sure:

What is so odd is most of are pretty freaking hot. Although, it gives me an unsettling feeling because most of these women have mental disorders.

Hahahah, not all hot women are crazy.

But either way you aren't their type! or shall I say.. age.
Although this may be that, these women are merely looking for attention, most in unhappy marriages and they go to stange places for emotional support. Which is 14 year old hormonal boys.

Not to derail this thread but do we grant grown men this same excuse if the tables were turned?

No...not at all. But biology makes it difficult for women to force themselves on unwilling participants. With men, there is always the underlying implication that they used physical advantage to intimidate or force their victims to comply, even if they did "agree" to the acts.

But in the case of teachers having sex with students it's not usually the case of physical domination.

All an attractive male or female teacher has to do is pay the right young girl or boy some attention and they'll fall head over heels.

We all remember our first loves.

Either way, it's wrong and the adult should be put away.

True...I just think right or wrong people make the assumption that a teenaged boy CHOOSES to have the sex, because he can't get a boner against his will, where the teenaged girl is somehow pressured into it.

Believe it or not, some teenage girls like to have sex too.

Either way you cut it, girl or boy, they are both taken advantage of from an adult in a position of power.

I understand that, I'm just saying people are more wary when the tables are turned and it's a male teacher because they feel their is more possibility it wasn't consensual.
Due to the ages of the children consensual doesn't even come into play.

They are kids.

If a 14 year old girl testifies that she wanted to have sex with her 36 year old teacher does that make it right? Should he be let off the hook? Maybe I'm missing something here.

I wish everything in life was as black and white as this statement. There is a excellent movie based on a real story I'd recommend you to watch before passing judgment: Notes on a Scandal.(Cate Blanchettt & Judi Dench; great acting)

I'm not talking about my beliefs. The question is if the tables were turned would society view it differently and I'm trying to explain why they would and do. This woman will still get prosecuted. But probably not as harshly. And she won't be viewed as a rapist, while a man probably would.

Agreed.

I'm not passing judgment. Just saying that IF a teacher has sex with a 14 year old student they should be punished. No?

Like it or not, it's usually against the law depending on where you live.

Michael, I actually understand and agree with your viewpoint. Take genders out of the equation. It's an adult having sex with a minor (no matter what the gender of the adult or minor), no matter how people try to spin it.
