A Shot of Faith

I will agree with the other posts about what needed work. But at the end of the day I really enjoyed it. Great job. Post the 12 minute version with the new sound after the fest is over I would like to check it out.
 
A strong opening followed by a strong entrance, I liked how it started. A wide shot to establish the bar would've been nice, I had a difficult time really understanding the space of the bar, and where everyone was. The location was awesome.

I think the jazzy music at the start hurts the piece, it doesn't really work with what's happening at the bar, kinda detracts from the mood. Is just kinda there and muddies with the dialogue.

Kudos for how you directed the action in the piece, all of that work was spot on. I was like whatjusthappened? Very effective. The blood, the speed in how you cut it. Everything. More time on sound design would make it stronger, but I enjoyed it the way it stands.
 
I also got confused about the placing of all the characters within the bar. I wonder if that's an issue with the camera lines, or if it just needed a nice wide from behind the bar or something.

I really enjoyed the film though. Some great shots, and some very creative storytelling.

I actually really liked your main villain, and had no problem with the toothpick. I thought he was very compelling, and he also had some great dialogue.

I also had an issue with the bartender. If he's not going to do anything specific in the film (or at least this version), I'd cut him out for the most part.

But good job with a very challenging attempt. You were very succesful with a lot of the elements within it.
 
Right from the beginning I liked the production value. I was taken a little by surprise when we got inside the saloon and it wasn't a period piece. Your villain was okay but I thought he talked WAY too much. I found eyes constantly drawn to the toothpick which became a distraction pretty quickly.

Your damsel-in-distress did a good job. I really liked your hero. The face tick seemed a bit over the top for his character as it was set up in the 6 minute version, may have been set up in the longer version, I don't know. I like that you had him silent except for the one line of dialogue.

I thought the bullet hits were a bit cartoonish bit not a deal breaker.

I look forward to seeing the full version.
 
Good job on the film. Loved the opening of the film and the ending credits...very well done. For me, the overall mix could use some tweaking, as the score was overpowering at times. I'm sure people have mentioned the dialogue could have been recorded better and there was a bit of confusion as to where the characters were in the bar. Acting was pretty good, but longwinded in the main character. For me, the bartender didn't hit the mark...and that was his wife? Don't most bars have a nice sawed-off shotgun behind them...end of story! LOL.

Keep at it, each film you make gets better....

Nice job here. The story was riddled with cliches, but a solid entry none the less. I agree with the other comments about the sound. I would avoid the VCP sounds, if you have other options.

Costumes were well done although not consistent between characters, not sure why they weren't all dressed similarly.

You have an entertaining entry here and I enjoyed watching it.
 
I won't touch on what's been addressed.

I really liked the Hero's entrance. I thought that was done extremely well. I would have liked a bit more back and forth in the edit between the villain and hero. I know the hero doesn't say anything but just seeing his reaction to some of the lines would have been cool. Predictable ending but it seemed to work well.
