A Saturday afternoon walk downtown

I building/flag/sky shot. How do you get everything to look so clean? When I close down the iris to stop sky flare, I lose the definition in the foreground to darkness.

Hey brybry... not quite sure where my iris was on that shot, but when I can, I always shoot with the iris as wide open as I can get but using ND filters to control exposure (I used the in camera ones on this). This will allow more light into the camera and should usually result in cleaner images. And with the building/flag shot I didn't have to shoot near or toward the direct source of the sun (it was behind the building just beginning to set), making the sky in general a little easier to deal with.
