With the pace of these shots and the mood of the overall piece I would have liked to see it done with a steady camera. Tripod and dolly. The off angle shots were also a bit distracting. Try and line up the angles. The flag over the building was breathtaking, but the angle of the building pulled me out just a bit. Sometimes it worked great... like the church into Mary -- WONDERFUL!!!
I like your eye, though. Thanks for the look into the town.
It's already been said...
but the building with the flag was a killer shot.
In fact...so killer that it sort of stuck out too much for me.
I kept waiting for another shot of the same caliber. The closest one would have been the church steeple with the clouds.
Overall, I really dug it...but yeah, a little shaky for my taste.
Actually, I think it was the zooming that bothered me more than the shake.
But overall, really nice.
Great video, i loved the feel of it, good combo with the music and imagery, i liked some of the swaying and motion in the video but at times it pulled me out, I think when there were multiple zooms in the same shot. But dont get me wrong, i really liked this very nostalgic!!
You found sound some great shots there. As mentioned, the flag popping out over the building is awesome. But some of the others are interesting. The shot of the statue of Mary's open hand with the vehicles driving into it. Or the timelapse. Or the flag reflected in the window.
The shaky shots are the only things that I didn't like. But only because of the shake.
Excellent images man. Very filmic and nicely CC'd, my virtual hat is off to you (I'd take off my real one, but I have some serious hat hair at the moment). Personaly, I don't mind the handheld feel as much as some others have stated. Your shot composition is very artistic and the pacing is very well done. Very nice.
i love the fast shutter speed. for some reason it works with these type of videos. your best compositions are by far the fence with the sun blasting through, and the flag waving over the building.
I was curious and watched it a second time with the music off. It made a huge difference, but then, I am a massive Jon Brion fan. Don't get me wrong, I still like the images, I was just surprised how much impact the music (and cutting to the music) was having.
Also, someone mentioned how great the flag popping out shot was and I second that.
Yeah, CMessineo... this Jon Brion track actually spurred the video idea. While I was walking around shooting I had the music repeating in my head... it wasn't necessarily just added later. So I definitely agree the track has a pretty major impact on the images/pacing/tone/etc... and I too am a big fan of Jon Brion
