A quick note to the crew

LOL no the traffic jam was someone else. I think that person dropped out.

I haven't talked about the production aspect at all.

We had two makeup guys. Whichever was present at that day's shoot was given that job. We didn't focus too much on makeup just because... well, it definitely wasn't necessary. That was it really as far as hardcore crew. I guess you could say I had an assistant director as well, because he did the yelling for me, to manage everyone. lol

How many locations did you guys shoot?

We had 12, but ended up cutting one out of the movie just because it didn't feel right.

I'm still amazed at the locations we did get though. When I originally sat down and started brainstorming for this project, the locations were on my list of "These would be cool to have, but are probably not going to happen" locations. We got every single one of them. My crew helped out on that. They all either could directly help us out or knew someone who could secure them without paying a single cent.

Holy ****! 12 locations, 120 people, 2 makeup guys! an asst director! Are we allowed to unsubmit our entry!?...lol. I can't wait to see your film!
 
Damn. I was the crew. Period. I used a boom stand for audio. I only had three actors (two of which are in the movie for about 15 seconds. My budget was the cost of an MQ tape and the booze required to get two of the actors to get in front of the camera. Everyone did their own makeup while standing in my bathroom. This was the biggest ghetto, run-and-gun production I've ever been a part of. I loved every minute of it.

Sounds alot like my production....boom stand worked out quite well.
 
I would have been right there with you (everyone did their own make up or tried to help/encourage each other a little in my bathroom as well) ... except the moving shots we did would have made a boom stand impractical ... so it FORCED me to have someone else there to help, dangit! :)

Whoa. I can't wait to see that one.

We had a four day shoot with about fifteen actors by the end of it. Me and my production partner swapped off crew roles, but I ended up directing most of it, while he did most of the camerawork. And we had an on-off boom guy. So, add in the makeup person, and we had a crew of four on the big days.

I think afterwards, we should tally up all the different commonalities, like: Movies with Severed Heads: 3, Ones with Limb Amputations: 72, Total Number of Laser Death Squads: 1 (hey, a guy can hope).
 
crew: the two of us (from concept/writing/pre-pro/directing/camera work/editing/sound etc.
actors/extras: 23
we had a couple of friends/family help us do the makeup (my mom included-she rocks!).
we are truly grateful to our friends...from the sound of it we were pretty lucky to be working with good and talented people we know and love. awwwwww!
we had a couple of friends doing bts video and stills- and the footage is amazingly fun. we are going to start editing it together tomorrow-but, i guess that is being discussed on another thread....

Oooh, we didn't have severed anything. Oops. Hopefully the originality (is that really even a word?) will save us some. We're pretty confident no one will have the same story line, at least.
 
I wouldn't mind winning it :p lol I don't think I have a chance, but just in case if hell does freeze over, I'll take the adapter without complaints :)

Our budget was only about 150$, and half of that went to homemade fluoros, and a few other homemade devices that will be covered in the BTS. The rest went to gas, blood mixtures, and minor expenses such as food.

My car seriously turned into a mobile studio. I've learned how to efficiently pack all of my equipment into my trunk (hyundai sonata), and cram my light ballast in my back seat, while still allowing people to sit in all available seats. haha

I can't wait to see everyone elses though. I'm probably going to wake up way early tomorrow to see if they're up.

I hear ya. My car's been a studio on wheels for a while now, even when I don't need it. Never know when you're going to need a c-stand, right?

Unfortunately the trunk is now SOAKED with movie blood. I pray I'm not pulled over before it gets cleaned.
 
LOL yeah! I actually hadn't emptied my trunk from my shoots yet, and I went to check for an extension cord in my drunk and found an exploded gallon of blood. Not sure how that happened, but wow. haha it basically burst and squirted all over my reflectors and lights. Luckily the other 3 jugs in my trunk hadn't exploded.

two of my favorite shirts, and my shorts all have blood stains. People keep asking me where they come from, very good stories. haha
 
My trunk still has stuff in it from the Feb contest shoot. Always, I have white bounce board, silver reflector, cheap ass home depot lights, cinefoil, extension cords and power strips. My roll of gaffer tape seems to have found a new home, though. :(
 
I need to add cinefoil and depot lights, because all I've got for lights are this fluorobank thing I made, and tungesten reflector bowl lights from walmart. That reminds me that I need to get halogen bulbs for those in place of the crappy filament lights I have now.

Am I the only one who thinks it's funny that the guy (whoever that was) who was bragging about all this production value for SOME reason, couldn't manage to pull off a measly, little five-minute short from his "90GB" of material?

90 Gig? Hell, that ought be enough to pull off a good number of shorts. Talk about a bad shooting to yield ratio!
 
I don't want to be a buzz-kill by bringing the title of this thread back to serious... but just in case any of my "new friends" read this I need to say:

Thank You SANDRA THOMAS for responding to my ad on the filmwire and helping round up a cast and crew at the last minute for me! Your endless energy and enthusiasm for this project leaves me hoping you'll be involved with anything I do next. If it wasn't for you everybody would be watching Veggi-Tales from the Crypt.

Thank You DAVE CHAPMAN. I'm glad I met you and your great family. I only wish I could have presented your script in manner more fitting to all the work and dedication you've had to this project. Considering you did everyone's makeup and all the special effects, along with your assistant and co-zombie, SAM RHODES... and with your wife AND daughter SHIELA and CHELSEY CHAPMAN co-staring in this project. It's safe to say I probably wouldn't have got an entry in if it wasn't for YOU and your family and friends!

Now for everybody else you haven't given me your full names yet so I'll thank and credit you more effectively on the DVD release... but thanks, BARBI, SCOTT, GLEN, BRANDON (sorry I didn't give you better tools to do your job and I asked a LOT from you... I hope you'll help us again)...

I think the odds are pretty low that any of my crew will see this post... but for all my joking around and bashing on our project... I take responsibility for it not being better... we encountered many obstacles that I wasn't prepared for and I only hope that you guys will be a part of a future project where we already know each other and I can plan more effectively for a professional result.

Christopher(babywhipes): Thanks for not crying like a little ***** (as usual) on set and for being a terrific sport during the enema scene.

Sarah Mulvogue: Thanks for being incredibly late to anything and everything you've ever attempted. You really taught me a lesson in how to tell someone to show up at 1 and expect them at 5. Without this invaluable lesson I probably would have gotten all the shots I needed.

Zach Oliver: Thanks for being a tall loppy ass and general nuisance on set. It was also alot of fun feeding your hunky dorey ass. I'll make sure I give you a call if I ever do a movie that involves a Giant goon with the eye-hand coordination of a 6 year old.

Dane: Thanks for not being able to control your stiffy when jessie had to jump on top of you.

Jessie Atkinson: Thanks for sharing alot of the same qualities as Zach.

My brother Hank: Thanks for being my brother. Without you I wouldn't have had anybody else to FORCE to help me. Also, all those years shitting on you when I was a senior and you were a freshman really boosted my self esteem. Thanks for that.

Kevin Wells: Thanks for letting me borrow your airsoft gun, I wish it was real because I would have put you as the first zombie killed and I would make up some bullshit story to tell the cops. Footage would have been awesome!

DVXUSER: For waisting my life. I could be out shooting something right now, but NO!!! I'm stuck on here posting pointless **** waiting to read those few golden words "ZOMBIE FILMS NOW READY".
