I have two questions for you though. In your description of your settings you said you use the Enriched Matrix setting. I have a DVX100A, and I don't see it. In my menu, the settings are Norm1, Norm2, Flou, and Cine-Like. Just curious if there is something different between the Pal and NTSC versions, or if there could be some other explanation.

Pseudonym, you are right

In the PAL model the matrix settings read as...Norm 1, Norm 2, Flou and Cine LIke. The counterpart labels for the same settings in the NTSC model are Norm, Enriched, Flou and Cine Like. Norm 2, a new addition in 100AE does the same as the Enriched matrix setting, newly added to 100AP.
:)

And for a demonstration of what it really CAN do...see the Magical Fall once again, if u have time ;)

Re: A Magical Fall

Disjecta,

Is the footage posted on the new website an Uprezzzed version?

Re: A Magical Fall

Aejaz,

Thanks for the kind words. No, this is not the uprezzed version, this is the original although I have uprezzed it but just haven't posted.

The uprezzed version on my TV is dramatically better. I've also noticed a positive side effect to uprezzing: I always shoot in thin mode and because of the nature of what I shoot (no pun intended), I am dealing with a lot of details in my framing, like veins in leaves, or thin tree branches. In certain shots (the opening leave shot is an example), I experience interlace flicker because of this detail. When I uprez the file, the interlace flicker disappears completely. I think what's happening is that, for starters, anything that is under 2 pixels thick on the screen will, more likely than not, flicker on your screen. That's why mid and thick settings basically boost those kinds of details to an acceptable thickness so they don't flicker.

When uprezzing, if a line, for example, is just under 2 pixels in the original shot and flickers on the screen, the percentage that the footage is enlarged pushes that line up to the 2 pixel range and thus, gets rid of the flicker.

This is a real benefit to me because if there's even one part of the frame that flickers, the shot is almost ruined for me (because I'm a perfectionist) even though the majority of people don't even see it.

Re: A Magical Fall

That is a very significant find. I look forward to seeing the uprezzed version sometime.

But I wonder why the whole frames, only in the later half of ur film, were jerky at their bottom...or were they only on my computer.

Any way it is a tremendous effort.

Re: A Magical Fall

I just watched it again after not looking at it for a few days... damnit, this is so good! :D

Thanks Aejaz, I had found several other references to the 'enriched' and other matrix settings. when I didn't see a Norm 2 I had assumed it was the same, but I hadn't checked my manual yet. Thanks for confirming it for me. I was afraid I had some strange pre-release version that didn't get the enriched setting. Now that I see the kind of results you can get with it, I'm going to have to start experimenting with those settings more.

Thanks again.

Re: A Magical Fall

Re: A Magical Fall

Disjecta,

I am also having trouble with this. When I click on the "Click Here to play movie" link at the site, it simply opens the same page in a new window.

?

Re: A Magical Fall

Guys, unfortunately I don't have any control over where this file resides right now. DVmaker is doing me a favor by hosting it so you might want to either PM him or send an email via his Web site.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
