A Magical Fall

disjecta

Lucky Duck
So I blew work off today so I could work on my film...is that dedication or what?

This is the fall film you have seen but it's now twice as long. It's also now a cinemascope version (not uprezzed yet). Yes, this is me shamelessly drawing attention to myself. I could have easily updated the other thread but I wanted to draw it to people's attention that the difference is significant.

Anyway, let me know what you think....

I added a subtle Magic Bullet effect to the very last scene of the heron in the water because it was shot in ultra-low light and it lended itself to this effect...kind of a vintage movie feel...

Re: A Magical Fall

I cant wait for the download to finish to watch it. It says 2hrs.

Re: A Magical Fall

2 Hours? are you using the Pony Express? :o I'm kidding as I feel bad for you. Mine is 1 minute 25 seconds. Damn Dman, at least throw a grab up for the man!

Re: A Magical Fall

Damn.

I like how I know what to expect when the Dman submits some new work; calm, tranquil, peacefully cool imagery. You know its good when when my wife is walking by to grab the phone to call her mother in Tennessee and stops to say "Ooh, whats that?". I say "Thats Dman in Seattle." Now she's hovering over me and then my 4 year comes rolling in "I want to see!" and then there are ducks (poultry as cant tell a gosling from a gooslings turkey) and trees and then:

The poor little duck with a nubb. How sad is that? All of us at the same time go "Awwwwwww..."

Love it. Always cool.

Re: A Magical Fall

Looks great! Nice job. If you're up in this neighborhood you might want to check up on burnaby lake, a ton of herons, mallards, wood ducks, and all sorts of other critters flock there in big numbers.

HAHAHA!!!

Re: A Magical Fall

Thanks guys. I usually do a series of three shorts plus a photo sequence (lots of motion in the photos). My wife is a photographer.

When will it be done? Good question. I just have a feeling when it's complete, can't really plan it. I'm going to be shooting over the next few weeks/months gathering more footage and when I have enough, I'll put another part together.

Re: A Magical Fall

John, I loved your post. You are such a family man, like myself. My kids give all the wildlife we see names.

The duck with one foot is called "Fancy"....derived from footloose and fancy-free. Her full name is "footless and fancy-free" :D

Re: A Magical Fall

It's a quicktime movie. Download the file and remove the "x" at the end to make it a .mov.

Re: A Magical Fall

i'm an idiot. I figured it out eventually.

Dman, (John has christened you this and thus it will stick) amazing stuff as always. I was waiting for a waterfall shot, but that's me being dumb and literal. Loved the "phantom" foot stuff on the duck. Man you make everything look nice up there. The end made me hope that one day you will get an underwater housing for your dvx and show us what is going on in the lake below the waterline. That would be awesome too. Great stuff again. Keep up the GREAT work.

Re: A Magical Fall

WOW!!!
Its worth all that waiting.
ITS REALLY MAGICAL.
Ur not using anamorphic adapter for the shoot right?
I wish I could see it after the uprez (Are u uprezing it for the CINEMASCOPE film projection?)

Re: A Magical Fall

PC, thanks. No anamorphic, this was shot with the letterbox setting and a scope matte for now. When I'm totally happy with the edit, I'm going to uprez it to widescreen and then apply the scope matte again. (I'll remove it for the uprez)

Re: A Magical Fall

Awesome awesome awesome. Damn :o Awesome.

hehe, mucho impressed.

You have a great eye and the technical know how to back it up. Do you shoot films?

(Hehe, also, why the 'x' ?)

Re: A Magical Fall

Well , you surely know better than this... "Great work." As always, waiting for your posts. :)

I think it would be really cool that if for whatever reason, you change your icon with the CO of the profile duck with the one almost at the end of this clip that is looking straight at your camera (was that a duck?)... I loved it. I can only imagine the time and patience you had for that picture.

Anyways, good stuff!
