A Magical Fall

Re: A Magical Fall

Another superb job! :o

It just keeps getting better and better.
So many highlights.  I guess my favorite thing is the way the music totally flows in perfect harmony with the images that are up onscreen.  Especially the one shot where the two ducks duck into the water.
I dont' have any critism except that in one of your earliest shots where the leaves are floating i think there might be a tiny bit of vignetting.

Great work though Steven

Re: A Magical Fall

Disjecta,

Do you get a lot of snow there where you live? If so, I hope you consider doing some shots of some winter scenes when it does. I believe with your talent you could produce some spectacular winter shots. Keep it up.

Re: A Magical Fall

What can I add from what I read. I really like the shot who seem to come from a rowing boat, isn't it, looking to the shore just moving slowly. Great work Disjecta, oups! Dman. :D

Is it expensive with the library for music??

Re: A Magical Fall

Top notch! Very nice. I'll bet some of those nature shots required a lot of patience (more than I would have). Perfect music.

Re: A Magical Fall

Having my boy Steven shoot winter scenes would be epic. In fact, it is now expected.

I want snowfall and blizzards. I want open fires amongst a cool blue snowfield.

Re: A Magical Fall

Actually Shadow, the shots taken from the water that you mentioned were done from a "party boat", at least that's what we call it here on the lake. It looks like a dock but it's actually a boat measuring 10' x 12'. It runs on a marine battery and electric boat motor.

I actually built this sucker myself...see below:

Re: A Magical Fall

Ya! Ya! :D Quit the same meaning over here for these kind of boat, and for chance they don't have to blow in the balloon (over drunk test); the jail will be completly jam. ;D

Good one Disjecta, a water dolly.

Re: A Magical Fall

Guys, I have taken down the file for now. I'm going to be switching ISPs because I'm about to get charged a wad of money due to so many transfers.

If someone is interested in hosting this temporarily until I get this resolved, please send me a PM.

Thanks...

Re: A Magical Fall

Dis, I'm guessing your lake is usually fairly calm. Perhaps no motorized water traffic allowed on your lake? If not, does your "party boat" (the likes of which I've never seen) end up with a wet and slippery deck? That "electric boat motor" is actually called a trolling motor, used for silent navigation through fish-infested waters, in hopes of catching the big muskie (or whatever)...

If I'm not mistaken, you're near Seattle and don't see a whole lot of snow during winter...maybe you can make a special trip to the mountains so we can view snowy iterations of your fantastic eye for nature?

Re: A Magical Fall

Hey Disjecta,
All the best with your efforts to take these vignettes to the next level and generate some cash from them. Talent deserves to be paid.

I have two questions for you though. In your description of your settings you said you use the Enriched Matrix setting. I have a DVX100A, and I don't see it. In my menu, the settings are Norm1, Norm2, Flou, and Cine-Like. Just curious if there is something different between the Pal and NTSC versions, or if there could be some other explanation.

Second, what is your shooting ratio? This is probably not easy of a question to answer, since everything you shoot becomes stock footage to be used at any time, but you seem to be able to capture great moments, and I'm just wondering if you're lucky, or if you're just letting the camera run, and cutting a lot of dead time. I see great moments all the time, but I never have my camera with me, or if I do, I don't have it facing the right direction or in focus.

You don't need another person to tell you you've got great talent as a nature cinematographer but I'm doing it anyway.

Re: A Magical Fall

I wanna see it. Can't live without another of Disjecta's movies. They are addictive..somebody please help ;D ;D

Re: A Magical Fall

Pseudonym,

My shooting ratio is probably 10:1 in general although for this piece it was more like 2:1 because I knew the exact shots I wanted and how to get them.

It's all a question of becoming intimately familiar with your surroundings and subjects. Although Mother Nature is not predictable, there are a number of givens, and I try to study the habits of the animals and birds that live around me. Having said that, I don't go out to shoot just one shot, I always keep my eyes and ears tweaked and sometimes it is a question of letting the camera run and edit it nicely in post.

I'm not sure why you are not seeing the enriched setting on your camera. I don't have my camera at hand right now but if you check your manual, you should see a reference to it there.

Michael, one of the members of this board has graciously allowed me to use his server temporarily so I will be reposting a link to this film.

I'll let you know when it's available.
