GH5 A light but effective steadycam for GH5?

If the mini tripod feature is important then you can add a 3rd party version for cheap. Tested one on my Crane, & decided I didn’t need it, & would just be another bit to transport.

Same with dual handles. Tested them, then decided they weren’t necessary for a light setup of a Crane & GH5.

Every electronic gimbal frightens me for 2 reasons: 1) It isn't so robust that can break in the place where I usually go (bush, rainforest, etc). Probably even the humidity can't make it work well. 2) I can't use a smartphone to manage it when I will be in those places. It seems Zhiyun Crane plus has the button on the handle to start and stop the video for GH5. Is it right?

Out of curiosity: Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus is a new model or there is also an old model?

You want compact, light and easy to use right? Then you have to use an electronic gimbal! Why can't you use your phone on location? The phone doesn't need service in order to use the gimbal app, it just needs Bluetooth communication directly to the gimbal, not internet connectivity! I simply start recording with my camera record button, and when I'm done, I hit stop. Some gimbal models let you stay and stop from gimbal, but I'm not sure about this one, but also don't see it as a deal breaker.

I can't do it with my smartphone because I always shoot where there is no electricity to charge batteries.

I have just bought a Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus. I will get it in some days. I will use the gimbal only with the GH5 and Leica 12-60mm. Especially in wide angle lens or with a light tele. Out of curiosity I need to ask some questios because I'm absolutely inexperienced about gimbal. In August I will make my first serious UHD documentary in Africa (but not in the cities). How often do you use the gimbal every day? Yes, I know it might seem like a stupid question. But I would like to know if I can keep the GH5 on the gimbal all day. I need advice from experienced people please. I will not even have a few minutes for rest because I will shoot everything that appears in front of me from morning to night. But could the video annoy those watching the video, when they see all those movements used so often with the gimbal? I have no idea how to use a gimbal. Can you give me some advices please? THANKS for your suggestions.

Shooting all day without a shoulder rig or tripod is going to be a challenge. As a test, take your GH5 and hold it out in front of you for an hour and see how that feels. Then add the weight of your Zhiyun Crane Plus rig. Then think about doing that all day. That's a difficult challenge.

As to look, the floaty look of a gimbal is a matter of taste. I've never watched a complete show done with gimbals. It might be ok, it might not. If you are shooting life as it happens, and you have the pans gimbaled, the lag in framing the pans will be irritating. Without knowing the project it's hard to provide more comments. But I think a full day of gimbaled camera of live action is going to be difficult and not give you your best results.

I strongly suggest getting the two handed grip for the crane. It's a really long day trying to hold the gimbal with one hand.

But I will buy some batteries for gimbal. Are they hard to find online?

I don't know about your location, but there are many sources in the States for those batteries; B&H, Adorama, ebay, Amazon, and more. Search for '26500 3600mAh Li-ion'.

Don’t know about 26500 batteries but I had issues finding spare 18650 batts for my Crane (v1). Problem was the length of nipples differed between manufacturers, & when I bought some high-end versions they were incompatible with the gimbal.

Zhiyun sells spare 26500 so might be prudent to buy theirs. Also a spare charger.

I don't anyone who can support the weight of any single hand gimbal with a GH5 sized camera and lens for an hour. Forget about all day! And hopefully you have a pile of camera batteries because the GH5 goes through them quickly. Especially when with the LCD going.

I have Zhiyun-Tech Crane Plus for 2 days and I have just decided to sell it. I don't like it. ;)

You're not going to get much smoother than a gimbal so I don't think you have many options then. A glide cam takes a while to get good at using. I'd try using the IBIS, practice your crouch walk, and then smooth it out further in post. The stabilization tools in most NLE's are pretty good these days and the IBIS will get you halfway there. Just frame a little wider than normal as the NLE will zoom in slightly when stabilizing.

Here's a video--

I only had problems specifically with the Fenix brand. Theirs seem to be longer than others. But I did not do exhaustive testing. I also got a more sophisticated charger to maintain battery life better. I usually keep that one at home base.

Doing a remote shoot like this is difficult enough, even with years of experience and a tried and true process. I really hate to say this, but this doesn't bode well for your project, as things like this should have been decided upon months ago. This is like asking a soldier to go to war with a gun they never shot before! It's not just the equipment you buy, but the skill and knowledge to be able to use it for the desired results takes time.

You have some unreasonable expectations. I wish you the best, but the things I'm hearing thus far give me a fair bit of pause about the likely success of the shoot.
