A Lens I Didn't Know I Had

So I found an old Tamron 80-210 my mom gave me when I was younger before she passed away, she used it growing up for photography... and I realized, it snapped right into my adapter ring for my 7D. So, I went out around golden hour last night and shot some footage in the front yard. Nothing super special, but check out what this 30 year old lens can do... it has a nice sharp depth of field, and the last two shots were shot up at f/22 and produced a wildly sharp image for the age of the lens.

Then again, glass is glass. In the right situation, this lens could really be utilized for some beautiful shooting. The only downfalls to old lenses would be no autofocus, no light meter read outs, etc... so this is all purely manual focus and guessing / assuming the light was exposed correctly according to my lcd screen.

Enjoy!

It depends, my other 30+ year old olympus lens meters. This one wouldn't seem to meter correctly, I don't know why.

That's weird... Nice looking work none-the-less. I really like the older glass on these cameras. Seems to smooth out some of the issues. Kinda makes you understand why so many modern filmmakers put diffusion or other modifiers over modern PL glass.

Agreed. It gives a nice soft look to it as well. For the price of one new lens, you could go to a flee-market somewhere (or ebay / craigslist for that matter) and find someones collection of old lenses they want to get rid of, go to adorama or b&h and find a couple adapter rings, and have a whole slew of lenses to use. Honestly, for video, it doesn't really matter that much. It will look slightly softer I've noticed but for the most part the video looks so close ... and then it comes down to how you color grade it that really brings out its true sharpness and everything.
