Hello All

While eagerly waiting for the HVX200 to arrive in Singapore in Jan 2006, I was doing some research on a cheaper alternative to the P2 card and came across this website, http://www.spec-comm.com/cineporter.php which gives an alternative solution, which I believe is definitely cheaper than buying more P2 cards.

Cheers

True, but the HVX will be available starting at the end of December, my bets are at the earliest to be April for the CinePorter and maybe longer.

pookie the smart ass lol :)

And yes.. it seems like a cool solution, it mounts under the camera which is kinda nice, uses HVX batteries. But, as Jan said, they wont say anything about dates so I wouldnt plan on getting it anytime soon.

The firestore drive won't be out until then either as far as I know.
So until the end of the second quarter of 2006 the only way to shoot HD or DVXPro50 with the HVX would be P2 cards or going direct to a computer, is that right?

That would be correct :)

:( so you can't you record DVCPRO50 to tape?

Even if you can't I'm looking at it like a kickass future proof $3000ish DVX (after I sell my DVX and some other gear + EVS discount) that records native 16:9 at 500 lines. I really want that and the ability to use my 35mm adaptor.

no way can my system handle HD right now anyway -- but still, I must own this camera ... I want to take its picture and put it in a locket to wear around my neck -- I want to take long walks with it -- If I didn't work at home where I can keep it on my desk, I would take it's picture and put it on my desk at work too -- I want to buy a waterproof housing so that I can take it with me in the shower -- I want to have a stuffed version of it custome made so that I can sleep with it at night, I ....

okay you get the point :cheesy:

How's that for a short film idea...

eagerly awaiting HVX also. but I'm gonna wait for the next batch. Let the bugs and reports come in.

that would be the smart thing for anyone to do who didn't need it right away for some specific and tangible purpose ... but ...

I'm afraid we'll spend the little bit of money I have put aside for this on less important things by then, like - oh I dont know maybe ... food ... rent?

p2 solution

p2 solution

is there a time table to when the capacity of the p2 card will be able to hold atleast an hr of record time? i would hate to buy the 200 and wait a long time for the p2 get larger in capacity and then end up in a situation where the 200b comes.

Looks like the first estimated pricing on the CinePorter is $2199 (CP-2 100GB) based on their site as of today. As Jarred said, until it is a lot closer to release, along with some hard specs, it is still a wait and see item. Certainly seems like a good option. Wondering how it will compare to the Firestore as far as being able to still access all of your clips after they are stored to the hard drive......

Dude, just get the HVX with the Firestore for less than $7400. That's 100 minutes of 1080p DVCProHD. It should be available in March or so, for "less than $2000".

I have to say I'm a little baffled by people's non-response to the CinePorter.
It seems to be everything that the FireStore is, but better.

If it works as claimed, then you will get all the advantages of the FireStore (continuous shooting, size, price) with all the bonuses of shooting on P2 cards (no duplicate frames, metadata, etc).

Personally, the camera with the CinePorter looks a lot more appealing to me than usign the FireStore streaming out the firewire port.

Just my .02

The CinePorter does look most interesting. I think people are giving more credence to the FireStore because it's got an established track record, and they've already demonstrated it in partly-working form. That's not to take anything away from Spec-Comm, but I think it'd be understandable if people were to take more of an attitude of, well, not so much "I'll believe it when I see it" exactly, but -- well, you get the idea. FireStore's a known quantity with a fixed ship date. I haven't heard anything about the FireStore that would imply superior functionality as compared to the CinePorter, but I think Spec-Comm will find much wider acceptance as soon as they demonstrate and/or ship the first working unit.
