C100: a firmware update to record 4:2:2 internally? is Ninja 2 necessary ?

I was just wondering if this case since I just got a C100 and still crossing my fingers about the Ninja 2

reasons why I need 4:2:2 :

1. I occasionally do Green screen works (maybe 3-4 times a year for extremely low budget commercials, around 0.5 k, which requires minimal efforts. and sometimes Id like to do some interesting on location greenscreen shots for fun/experiment)

2. 4:2:2 comes in handy when color is way off (I had a chance to shoot a doc in a extremely yellow/orange room, no matter how i set the WB on 5D2, its just either too yellow or too blue even playing around with the WB offsets), and when i got home to CC the footage, I cant push it too far since half of the color is missing. thats why I thought I was done with 4:2:0 no matter which cam I own

3. Ive read a lot of reviews and people always say that C100's 4:2:0 is better than 5d's 4:2:0. but for me 4:2:0 is the same.

3. its just a life saving add-on for Run-n-gun shootings regardless of the weight

anyways

reasons why I dont need Ninja 2:

1. Run n gun is a top concern for me now ( I used to do weddings with 5D2 + DP6 which is a pain, I broke at least 10+ HDMI cables, and there is no hotshoe mount on earth that secures DP6 in place), and there is currently no great mounting solution of Ninja 2 (with cable locks on both end and a arm that actually mounts on hotshoe without slipping off). I know on the C100 end, you can put a lock on the HDMI port after taking off the side screw, but I have no idea on the Ninja side.

2. I know it supports upto 10 bit uncompressed recording, but there shouldnt be any DSLR that feeds out 10 bit uncompressed through HDMI in the near future (Id say in 3 - 4 years considering the life cycle of 5D mark iii), and therefore for C100, its just a difference between 8 bit 4:2:2 and 4:2:0

3. and most importantly, Ninja has no SDI and it only brings 4:2:2 to C100 (10 bit feature is a waste since C100 only feeds 8bit), while Samurai has SDI but no HDMI. Eitherway its just a specific product for a specific reason, that I have to sell it once Im done with C100. No future proof.

by the way, My business is mainly weddings, docs, tutorials, low budget (under 2k) 30/15 sec commercials, real estate, and film BTS. C100 should be enough to satisfy 85% of these works, and only 15% I have to risk is the 4:2:0 (its run n gun, so I have to bring those bad looking shots back to life)

So my question here is, is it possible for Canon to do a firmware update to bring 4:2:2 to life on C100 ? if its a hardware issue and therefore not possible then, should I consider buying the Ninja just for the 4:2:2 ?

PS, I dont care about the workflow (for example like starting with 00001.mts everytime and AVCHD editing issues). these things are minimal. For me, its not a pain in post production since its just myself dealing with a F computer, versus calling the clients for apologizes, reschedule and reshoot.

Your complaints are a tad excessive. The ninja/samurai is really easy to manage. I've never lost signal during recording or broke a cable and have a perfectly fine mounting solution with 1/4 20s. You can get hdsdi or hdmi on the ninja/samurai with a converter that fits on the battery latch, super simple. A ninja on a c100 is about the weight of a c300, so it really shouldn't be a problem. Use a ninja first before ranting about it. I shot this with a hyperdeck shuttle without a hitch, I highly doubt locations would be tougher run and gun than this https://vimeo.com/55720107

There will never be a 4:2:2 upgrade, avchd can only produce 4:2:0 color spaces.

I don't think there's ever been a case in history where a manufacturer has upgraded the internal codec of a camera to go from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2. Hoping or waiting on Canon to do this, is wasted time and wasted breath. If you need 4:2:2, get the Ninja 2 or the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2.

I don't think it would be possible. Chroma subsampling is probably locked in as a part of the ASIC hardware encoder.

It sounds to me you don't really need an external recorder at all, you want one just to have one by the sounds. I'm sure you'll find the internal codec will perform just fine for you. If the green screen work would pay for the recorder in one job, it would be an easy buy, but if you'r getting paid $500 to shoot each spot you'd have to shoot half a year if you only shoot 4, just to pay for the recorder with no money in pocket. Codecs have a lot to do with what you can do with the footage and AVCHD is actually pretty robust in my opinion.
