..A few first RAW samples from FS 700 and Sony R5 Recorder

There are few ways,

- you could use the RAW plugin for Adobe Premiere CC and work with them directly in your editing software (http://community.sony.com/t5/F5-F55/NEW-Adobe-RAW-plugin-update-v1-2/m-p/140515#M3233)

- you could use the Sony RAW viewer to export files into a format for your editing software.

- you could use Davinci Resolve to transcode the RAW files into HD lower quality proxy files for editing, then later after your edit is done bring the edit back into Resolve and grade your edit accordingly using the ORIGINAL RAW files as the source.

I prefer the 3rd option because you can work with light files while editing, and save the horsepower and machine bogging down for later when you are ready to output your grade based on your edit.

I haven't downloaded Serge's files yet, because my DSL connection is slow as a turtle (going to do it overnight later). But for those who have checked out the 2K RAW files, how does the ALIASING look?

So far, from the few F55 and FS700 2K RAW 240fps videos I've seen, I haven't noticed much aliasing and they look amazing; but that's on vimeo which obviously hides (and introduces) artifacts.

I don't really understand all of the handwringing over the 2K aliasing... Haven't we all been shooting and using aliased 240fps footage for the past year? The internal 240fps AVCHD recording works exactly the same way, it pulls 2K from the sensor and buffers it out to the card. The aliasing is there, and was noted soon after the camera was released last year. Just like dealing with it in a DSLR (but not nearly as bad), it's more apparent in some shots than others, and it's just something you work around.

I guess it might be possible to develop a CinemaDNG debayer optimized specifically for the FS700's 2K readout (I don't know enough about that process) but aren't all of these initial 2K raw tests going to look, resolution-wise, like 240fps always has?

Yes.. and even little bit better.. but (!!) AFTER watching detailed 4K files, everyone want to see the same quality in any possible mode..! :) It's like trying to drive old Ford 1924 after been spoiled by modern auto-transmission Lexus :)
I don't think you will be happy to get back into "Wonderful Old Days" and find out that you cannot get simple Gillette to shave yourself and stay in Arizona midsummer day without air conditioning ...

I make a new drawing of the sensors:

FS700_Sensor.jpg

and you can see that even RED cameras cut out they HUGE sensor for fast frame rates .. instead skipping pixels or lines for 2K..

..so maybe it's better if Sony give us an option to record Slow Motion in my proposed "Sony FS700, F5, F55 2.35 Aspect Ratio 17 X 7.23 3K crop Mode" and they planned with update in December "Super 16mm 2K Crop Mode"?
so everyone will be able to choose: to record 2K as it is, with line skipping, or use this two additional Crop Modes if you wish.. ?? ...maybe I'm wrong, but seems it's will be simple for Sony to create this options for us :)

"Any green/magenta spike, Serge? How is the CRI and skin tones?"

Does anyone know who really makes the LED panels for the Camtree LED lights?
Serge, what are your thoughts about the quality of the light (green spikes, etc.)?

Actually I don't know what to say .. .. as an Artist I never understand what is a "skin tones" .. for me it's sound "plain stupid" .. I never heard about it, untill I start to read Digital Photography forum :) ..
If about 20 years ago, I ask my old Professor in Art College about "skin tones", he may kick me out of college for that ...

In painting we see ANY COLOR in SURROUNDING and "CONNECTION" with other colors !!!

so how are you able to decide about "skin tones" in this few samples ? -->

.... sometimes I see a color of human face or body have a blue or green tint without getting out of COLORING of the scene!!! ... why not?

===================

about Camtree LED panels .. I use it and seems it's work.. for me :) ...

...take a look to a few testing samples:

..seems like all what I have to do is to SET WHITE BALANCE PROPERLY ! :2vrolijk_08:

Yes, thank you so much for the samples, they look great! I'm mainly interested in the raw option for narrative/drama, is there any chance of getting some 4k Close up shots samples?

The second one, the second one!!! Lol, any chance of some more people in 4k - video samples?

as I say in other thread, I will have an option to shoot RAW with F55 soon.. and there will be more test samples from both cameras: FS700 & F55 :) ...
( be careful of olgagroza - she live in Russia.. and trying to push me hard on Videomax forum, but since I stop to reply to her posts there, she trying to get me here ..... is it Putin's propaganda make some russian people aggressive and dangerous? )
