C300: A Couple Of PSA's With The C300

These two were very quick turn arounds. I edited both yesterday. For the first spot I tagged along with the news crew that was shooting a news package/profile. I added my wireless so I could get the interview but moved around a lot to change it up and hopefully get a couple different looks. The video portrait was shot right outside her office. Nice location. Love the arches. I used the Rokinon 85mm at about 5.6. Nice lens. I find myself wanting to use it more.

The second one was tough. He is a civic leader and really didn't have an office or location. We went to where he holds public meetings which is at a bakery in the back room. Great bakery by the way. It was a concrete ugly place, but the doors had a them drape to cover them so that became the backdrop. Thank god for that! It was really ugly in that room. I thought they used it for a Fight Club after hours. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) I shot him with the 24-105 and ran around the bakery with him as well with the 24-105.
Shot in Canon Log and graded with Colorista II.

Really nice job again Erik, I don't think the room at the bakery let you down on this shoot.....the Auditorium is the only shots that look out of place....the lighting of all the other shots were great but the darkness of the Auditorium were too dark (not your fault as such places are the bane of video shooters).

You get great results out of your C300....keep sharing.

Thanks! I didn't shoot the video from the events. That was given to me from the organization. I probably should have tried to brighten them up a little.

Thanks guys!

I wanted to share the before and after so you see the difference between the ungraded Canon Log.

I used Colorista II for grading this. In secondary added a masked to pop her face a little and I added a second Colorista II and in secondary added a mask to tame the wall on the right. Lots of sun was hitting it and took attention away from the subject. Then finally a vignette. Super fast grade. Check out the full size image. It looks much better than this one.

Hey Eric! I bought a C100 based partially on your work and review. I'm also dazzled by some of the low light stuff I've seen -- some shot at 10,000 ISO!!! Unfortunately, I had to send the first one back because there was something terribly wrong -- horrible banding/noise/macro blocking in the shadows, even at 400 ISO. I await my functioning camera and thank you for the in-depth review. These promos were really well done. P.S.: I also have a Gh3 and more lenses than my wife knows about. I also highly recommend the Rokinon 35mm Cine lens. On the C100 with the 1.5 crop, it's basically that 50mm you're waiting for -- and it's beautiful!

Thanks. I'm glad I was able to help! I just got the Rokinon 35mm Cine yesterday to go with the 85mm cine I bought a few ago. My concern with shooting portrait style is the lens distortion on the 35mm verses the 50mm. normal lens. The crop doesn't change the aesthetics of the lens and depth of field that the 50mm has. I want to test both to see if it does. Anyone have a link where somebody did this type of test on a portrait style shot?
