A Case for the AF100

Might be too much for some of you guys, but this has worked out great for me.
Holds:
-AF100
-6 lenses
-SmallHD DP1
...and everything else...including the AF100 Book!

zaza, what model number is that pelican. i just ordered two (sorry jan =]). i have a lot of stuff and being solo most of the times i think ill fit my whole rig/ lens in both, for security its less to keep track of.

so what is the mode number for that new Portabrace case?

It is the PKB-275PV. My engineer Barry Russo just came back from LA with it and in it he carried 4 lenses including a 50mm Zeiss, two Lumix and an Olympus short zoom, matte box, rails, follow focus, 3 batteries, power supply and of course the camera. Cable tied it locked and shipped it via UPS. Everything arrived safe and sound. I am really pleased with the case so far.

Best,

Jan

thanks! so its not a pelican. the 1650 arrives sometime this week, maybe next, and it is very close to these dimensions. i should get everything inside.

Finally got my Storm iM2450 all cut up and glues together. I tend to spend a lot of time making the foam fit right. I glue each layer down and glue all the seams when I reassemble the foam inserts. I totally removed the foam from one corner to save space. Some stuff just doesn't need padding so why waste space. I made a sheetmetal insert to give the corner support and make my "pocket." Overall I'm pretty happy with it.

Holds the camera w/Nikon adapter, 3 lenses, 3 batteries, charger, side grip (unmounted), and some cables, accessories, SD card case, etc.

This will be my "kit." I'm gonna have a separate case for my Zeiss pimes when I get those. For now, I'm set. Other things like monitor, rails, follow focus, mattbox have their own case as those aren't always needed.

Let me know what you think!!! :D

Thanks. With the lenses in there, it actually ends up being a bit heavier than the same case with an HVX in it.

If anyone is interested, the lenses in there are:

Tokina 11-16mm
Nikon 17-55mm
Tokina 50-135mm

Jarek, yup your camera case does look great and neat, and I spend a lot of time with fitting and slicing the PnP foam. I always put the heaviest items closest to the hinge, so when the case stands up the weight is at the bottom.

Cheers.

I've got the 1510, it's great but at 13.6lbs empty (6.17kg) by the time you pack it up it's over the carry-on limit for a lot of airlines. Check that out first if you fly.

Cheers.

Please keep in mind that some of us *ahem cough* must buy bags and cases based strictly on air travel. I check things like tripods and sliders in hard cases but I MUST carry on the camera itself so it has to comply with carry on sizes :-( Currently, my AF-100 and accessories are crammed into two bags that aren’t really designed well for this sort of thing... my O-box for example gets crammed in sort of sideways/tilted and my smallDH monitor just squeezes in wherever there's a gap... not ideal.

I have a 1510 and using the dividers I can get the AF-100, 3 batteries, charger, two lenses, a rod support system, follow focus, matte box, a Pelican SD vault, plus (using the matching Porta Brace laptop bag for the lid) an 11" MacBook Air, my iPad, their chargers and an external HD. Mind you, everything has to be disassembled. But it fits!

When weight matters I use ThinkTank Photo's bags. The Airport Takeoff is my go to bag for international travel, but loaded up it too can easily exceed the limits.

Recently I've been using their Streetwalker Harddrive backpack for my most essential gear. This backpack carries a lot & I have other crew carry-on excess lenses.

Regards,
Bern
