A Case for the AF100

Hi Guys and Gals,

I have been working with Portabrace on a new case for the AF100. This case is going to be very different from other cases as it needs flexibility due to the nature of the AF100 and how it will be accessorized.. And I want to have the hard case have the same flexibility so, Portabrace has helped me come up with a solution that answers both. I would like to get your opinion.

I am not putting a Panasonic logo on it and am asking them to minimize the size of the Portabrace logo. I have flown with my prototype already and I am loving it. I am carrying the camera on rails with matte box. I remove the focus puller as I would hate to have it take a side hit while on the camera, so it goes into its own little soft bag. Then there are enough lens cases to hold 3 lenses in softness. There is also a nice little soft bean bag to lay over it . The soft case can be adapted to a roller trolley or it can be put inside a hard case for shipping. And it comes with a TSA approved lock.

As an option there is a laptop backback that it can zip on to as a soft case backpack. I will have it in Chicago at the show with Abel so if some of you want to take a closer look.

So what do you think?

Thanks,

Jan

PS. I will post a picture tomorrow if someone can tell me how to post a picture here.

Is it a hard shell case like this one Jan? $139 at B&H

Exterior Dimensions 23.2 x 20.7 x 8.9" (58.9 x 52.6 x 22.6cm) (LxWxH)
Interior Dimensions 21.7 x 18.1 x 8.1" (55.1 x 46 x 20.6cm) (LxWxH)

Hey Jan,

Reply>Go Advanced>Manage Attachments and once you get there it's pretty clear how to upload. Looking forward to seeing the backpack config very much, glad there's no logo.

Thanks, guys, I will upload tomorrow once I get my camera back for the show in DC.

It isn't like the Cinevate, I did see that while there, but I didn't care for its non-square shape, and I couldn't put wheels on it. I also wanted a hard case so I could ship if I wanted to.
Pictures soon,

Jan

I just love the SKB cases. I got one of these: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/369531.html
Plenty of room for camera, lenses, FF, Matte box...and all the goodies.
I know it's probably too big for most of you, but man, it's a great case.

...and it can double as an apple box!

I really like your idea too Jan, as long as it's not too expensive.

I hope to find a solution that the naked camera and a few lenses fit into a backpack (no rails and other tools).

Yep, thanks for posting this. Great idea. I'll need a carrying case/bag for mine too. Keep us posted.

You should look at thinktank or lowelpro. The AF100 is not much bigger than a DSLR and could
probably fit in some of the bigger backpacks they have.

Hi Jan,
best way to post a pic is to host the image somewhere else (eg flickr) then get the url for just that image.
(To do this with flickr you select view-at-largest image size, then control-click on link and copy url)
Once you have the url for the image you go to your dvxuser post and click on
insertimage.png
and paste
the url in.

edit:
great news on the bag. hoping the lens spaces are adjustable to accommodate large zooms as well as small primes
a little padded slot for a hard drive or LCD monitor would not go astray either

>thinktank

I have the big Thinktank bags and will try them. The Sony VG10 (and all its moire :-) ) fits into a small Lowepro.

PS: have now an AF100 finally on order

I would like both options.. hardcase and a softcase/ backpack type solution. The softcase would get 10 times the use fore ease and portability. I really like the Lowepro and the Kata bags are awesome.
