96 led light

Really very interesting because today I was just reading the June 2010 issue of Videography magazine and on the back cover is an ad for the "All New" HDV-Z96 LED Light by LCD4Video.com. So I went to the website and looked at the light which can be pre-ordered for "Only $296.00."

Then I just happen to check out DVXUser before going to bed and I find Min Lee's post.

I look at his posting above then go to the link which is Gadget.brand.com and see the Mergeable Cordless 96-LED DC DV Light with Magnet Color Filters for $70 shipped.

Looking at the photos and specs, I see that it looks like it is the EXACT same light as the HDV-Z96 LED Light by LCD4Video.com that is $296.00.

If you want to see the light in action, go to the LCD4Video.com website and see the little demo they have. Then you can buy from them, or you can go to the other website and buy 4 of them and still have a few bucks left over.

Great find Min Lee.

Yeah I personally am amazed at the markup on a lot of these lights.
Many if not most of the LED technology you are seeing today are being developed and made in China. Resellers in the states simply go to the factories in China and have it rebranded for their company with a huge markup.

Simply amazing...
God Bless America.

Purchased one! Thanks..was looking at a small LED light and they're all rediculously priced for some reason...the lcd4video markup proves it! :)

Hmmm... DC power jack - I'm guessing that's power in.

THe LCD4 stuff (as I recall) gives you the option to use sony or panny battery packs (like their LCDs) - this appeals to me, as I have lots of DVX batteries lying around, and you can get 'em online for a song.

I imagine you could use one of LCD4's battery kits to power one (or more) of these. I could see rigging up 3 or 4 of them for a nice portable source.

Any of you guys who get one - report back on skipping the AA's for something rechargeble with longer run time via the DC jack?

Here's a panny battery adapter:

Got it today finally, just missing the first full week of our feature film production. I've been tinkering with it all day, it's so cool! I could see this thing having a million uses. Color output is pretty solid and the unit itself is built like a rock. Hell of a deal for 70 bucks shipped, I'll be picking up more for sure!

I have this Z96 light for sale. Price is a little bit higher than ebay but you get faster delivery and domestic warranty =)

isn't it too greenish ?
i see they don't give a minus green filter. isn't it a problem ?

Any updates on using this light NoxNoctus? Does it have a green tint? Light throw etc.?

This'll teach me for not subscribing to threads on a busy forum!

After a good solid 6 months of use, I couldn't live without this little thing. Absolutely a camera bag essential. The Tungsten gel isn't the greatest, but without a gel it mixes rather well with daylight.

Using it on set with some CTB gelled tungstens worked rather well. This shot below was done with daylight in a bathroom with a window behind the talent, and a 96 shooting into a mirror, putting some fill on his face. Otherwise, he had no definiton on his face. Not bad for less than $100.

Anyone know if the Z96 will use the Canon LP-E6 battery?

It won't take LP-E6. But I have it on Sony NP-F570 battery. That tiny battery power the light for 2 hours and cheap
