Hey guys, I want to mount PL lenses onto my Canon DSLR, but the conventional options (Hot Rod kits, KCW adapters) are crazy overpriced; I found this one on ebay for 90 dollars which lets me use, supposedly, most PL lenses via a basic screw on adapter on my camera.

I am kind of nervous before buying this and I wanted to know if anyone else has this exact adapter and if so, what is your impressions of it and which lenses are you using with it?

thanks :D

my biggest concern would be putting that much weight on the EF lens mount. I would just make sure to support the lens on my rig while using this. A lot of the better PL mount lenses have threaded holes for mounting them so that shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Lower priced PL mount lenses start around $4K each and you are worried about spending "crazy money" on an adapter?

Also be aware that many PL mount prime lenses could hit the mirror in your camera.

All the Best!

Oh yeah, I will be rigging this for sure. A T2i is too light for handheld shooting (from my experience)

Also, newer PL lenses are 4k+ but you can get old school ones on ebay for around 600-800 if you look around. And if I have a project that calls for a new one I can rent it for around 60 bucks a day

yeah that will most likely not work. I think the depth on PL lenses is MUCH more than what that adapter will give you.

What I hate about PL lenses is that even though the mount is the same diameter, the depth is different...the listing has a list of confirmed working lenses, and you could extrapolate i guess that lenses with the same rear mount dimensions would fit too. Also, the dimensions of the adapter are exactly the same as the KCW "brand name" one

^^^ the real issue you may run into is clearance with your mirror. Any particular reason you feel the need to use very old PL mount lenses on your T2i?

Beacause I really, really, like fully manual aperture rings that you can turn and adjust light down to minute increments. I hate the hard stops on EF lenses. And I feel that pinpoint light control is mandatory for my work, as light is something I love playing with

Go for old nikons or pentax M42 mount lenses. Great glass, full manual iris and focus control, and can be easily mounted on the Canon bodies. Not to mention cheaper!!

trying to use PL glass on a DSLR is not easy, the mirror will cause lots of problems - I use vintage manual lenses, mostly Leitz from the 60s and 70s - they're awesome, and can be declicked to get smooth iris control (I did this myself, some are easier to mod than others) - some links talking about these lenses' awesomeness: http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/01/the-great-50mm-shootout - http://www.ryanewalters.com/Videos/Tests/tests.html - http://www.similaar.com/foto/lenstests/bokehtests.html - http://www.similaar.com/foto/lenstests/lenstestsa.html - also, I've got a very cheap declicked CZJ sonnar 135mm M42 for sale here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...ge-lenses-(Zeiss-Jena-50mm-and-135mm-for-M42)

I wouldnt say the Hot Rod adapter is overpriced...expensive yeah, but it is nice

I think when hotrod modifies your DSLR for PL mount, they gut the mirror box

thanks for all the interesting suggestions guys! i spent a good few hours yesterday chilling on ebay looking at the lenses you mentioned.
