FS5: 9.5-57mm Agenieux lens - It works?

Hi there Guys,

I'm thinking to buy a zoom lenses for FS5 (probably 18-100mm Sony), but, i've saw some 16mm lenses (eg. 9.5-57mm Angenieux) that are quite small and cheap.

Any advice? Does the sensor cover everything without vignetting?

Thank you!

As I recall, the 9.5-57 Angenieux would cover the original 4:3 16mm frame, but would start vignetting if shooting super 16. On the other hand, it might cover a B4 cropped (1920x1080) area of the sensor -- never tried it.

I have an old B-mount Angenieux that I adapted for my FS7. It works with 2K center crop, no vignetting, but it's really just a novelty.

The Sony 18-110 cine zoom is the best E-Mount lens available, and would be a much better fit for professional work.

+ 1. I would second all the above comments.

I would also add that with an S16 lens on the FS5 you have to use Clear Image Zoom at its max to stop vignetting. The FS5 doesn't have S16 Center Crop like an FS7. The FS5 with full zoom Clear Image tends to be a fair bit noisier than when shooting with full sensor. The older softer S16 lenses with Clear Image Zoom engaged is streets behind what the Sony 18-110 on full sensor will deliver in terms of sharpness, clarity, lack of CA and noise. This AbelCine video testing a good S16 lens on an F55 using Center Crop will show you that even with that camera there is a trade off.
