That's it. My Pop Pop was an avid home video recordist, sadly there are only a few reels left. He has dimentia/alzheimer's and has since reverted back to childlike behaviors, seriously. Nonetheless, I was able to get some of his old reels of my Ma and my aunt and some other random folks no one knows anything about and I've begun to transfer them to my computer/DVD via my Canon 7D.
Just thought I'd post a video, so if anybody else wants to do this, this is what it will look like.
Filmed off the wall from projector, approx. a 4 inch screen size with my Canon 7D and then exported out via MP4 in Sony Vegas Pro.
Hardest part is keeping up with the shutter so you lose flicker lines.
Let me know what ya think.

That is awesome dude! There is nothing like those old 8mm films. My family lost all of theirs. It's amazing how just the look and motion of it can make you feel.

Thats cool! I was going to do the same with my T2i. Any tips you might offer me? shutter speed? fps? how far away from the wall was your projector? and did you record in 1920x1080?

Thanks

Hey. I had the projector about 2 1/2 feet from the wall, shooting on a white piece of paper tacked to the wall. That way you have a image that is about 4 inches.
Then, I set my camera directly behind it and shot it at 1920x1080 at 24fps.
Shutter speed was "typically" 60 and ISO around 400.
You could also put it on AUTO and it does a pretty good job of capturing the reel.
This is the easiest way, because the cam is very good at detecting various brightnesses. However, sometimes it will have lines/flicker but goes away pretty quickly.
