7D's hot shoe strength...

For convenience, I've been considering the purchase of RedRocks' microHandle and microShoeClamp (due out sometime this month). I do a lot of field work, and there are many instances where I have down time, but can't put the camera down, so during those times I'd like to take the pressure off my arm and shoulder and just hold onto it, via the handle - though, I'm worried that 12 lbs of equipment, mounted on the 7D would probably be too much stress on the hotshoe alone.

Any opinions?

I was thinking of just running a cage as well, to safely use a top handle - I actually may use the RedRock hotshoe mount to use a field monitor. For a more ergonomic friendly setup when doing shoulder mounted shots.

I've been wondering about hot shoe strength as well. I'm hired to shoot a short this weekend and part of the budget allows for a marshal monitor. I don't have rails so I'm wondering if my 7D hot shoe will hold the monitor. Especially when its on an angle, will the monitor weight put stress on the plastic molding and cause it to crack

I don't know how strong the hot shoe is either but I mount the 7D to a car mount and support it on the bottom as well as the hot shoe and I have shot at about 50 mph.

It is very rigid and I don't know how much force is being placed on the hot shoe but I'd think its a fair amount. I think its pretty strong, not that I'd recommend that anyone else try that...
