Hello

I was about to buy a zoom H4N but with NAB this week, is there anything worth waiting for? or something I haven't heard about for doing audio with the 7D. This seems like the best right now.

Let me know your thoughts

Thanks
Mike D

No.

I just picked up the H4N because it seems like the best thing going (ESP for $305 to the door with nice headphones, 16GB SDHC card, case, etc)

Can I ask from where?

To the OP: Juicedlink just released the DT454, which you may want to wait a little for.

Funny you said that. I just pulled the trigger myself. Got the same thing on ebay. Great deal

I would rather mix into the camera with this

MX54s_Large.jpg

come out of the mini headphone jack into the camera.
2 wireless mics in right and left, plus a boom in the center

Runs on 2 9 volt batteries and provides phantom power if needed.

Then use a Olympus LS10 as a backup.

This is Good , But of Your Doing a Feature where Other Sounds are going to Be used and Superimposed Dialog from one scene onto another is needed you still need the sound file not to be attached to the Video File, not to mention ADR and So on. But this works great for Some Situaltions... .. Sound is Always good to do Separate IMHO....

This is all digital stuff, sound is separate in the NLE. Not sure what you mean.

In the NLE, everything can be separate.

For example, if you have a guy and a girl talking in a scene,
put one wireless on the guy and one on the girl.

The girl is far right channel
The guy far left channel.
The boom is both. (or do it your way and don't use the boom and you have 2 separate channels)

When you mix in the NLE you still have the right and left essentially separate with the touch of the boom which makes it seem NOT like wireless mics.

A wireless mice sounds like ADR.

You DONT want it to sound like that.
The boom makes it not sound like that.

A whole lot less work in the end.

Yeah you can do separate tracks and sync later, but to me this is not the price range that I would consider doing all that.

I need to be making 10k for the shoot for me to do that.
Most of my stuff is under that budget.

If i had a budget over 10k, I wouldn't use an H4N for sure.
