7D What and where to get

Hello,

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row as I plan my 7D purchase. I've read quite a few posts already, trying to understand the tons of lens options you can use with this camera to best fit my needs.

I'm a Canon Xh-A1 Letus35 user and I shoot music videos, so I want to get what im normally used to with the Letus setup. Primes, fast lens, etc.

The TAMRON 17-50mm F/2.8 seems like it would be a good start and I can get it in a kit here http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-CANON-EOS-7...wItemQQptZDigital_Cameras?hash=item2eaa3bebc7

but I also think I should get one lens thats fast which this 50mm should do the trick http://cgi.ebay.com/CANON-EF-50mm-f...iewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item3a56ba43ea

Are there any other suggests that I should look at for doing music videos? I;d like to get a fish eye lens as well at some point.

I am also gonna give that FD to EOS adapter a shot as Im not sure if I'm gonna give up my Letus setup with Canon FD's just yet.

Also, where would be a good place to shop. I am so tempted to run to best buy now and get the one with the Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. Which to me could still be put to use as a lens, but mainly for outdoors and not so much interiors without lightling.

Oddly enough I purchased my 7d from Camera King for $1450.00. As expected they did call me the next day to sell me some additional gear. I expected it and said what the hell. I ended up paying $50.0 more for a crappy battery that I thought would be useless, but to my surprise is holding up pretty well. In the end I ended up only paying about $1510.00 for the camera saving $200.00. What I would say is get some type of express shipping to avoid any type of delay in delivery. I received mine in 3 days, but I have read some horror stories on there slow delivery.

Camera King? are they on eBay or is it a website? do you have a link?

thanks for responding!

Well before you buy from them be sure to read these reviews. When I purchased my camera I had only read the positive review on the company. Well after searching for some more reviews after reading your thread I decided to do a new google search on Camera King and I also found some bashing reviews. I probably would not have purchased from them if I had read some of these comments. Here are 2 review sites on Camera King. One site seems overwhelmingly positive while the other seems to down right be on an assassin mission. Like I said I was familiar with the company to some degree so I went in knowing that I would spend a little more than the advertised price which would still have me paying about $200.00 less for the camera. Get next day shipping if at all possible is what I would always recommend.

I would never, repeat, never, try to save a little when I'm spending a lot. I get my expensive gear from only reputable places. Just way to many ppl get burned. And you know what, it paid off BIG TIME for me.

Within 7 days of me owning the 7D, the freaking software crashed on the camera rendering it useless. Amazon took good, good care of me. I called them up friday and I kid you not, was back filming on SATURDAY! Let me make that even clearer. I had a brand new camera in LESS THAN 24hrs. Service like that is amazing.

Most times people that try saving a little end up paying a lot more in the end.

That is so so true. that being said that's why I usually go with B&H, Markertek or Full compass. I have bought a few things from buydig.com though when their prices were better by a margin. Always got quick shipping from them and great customer service. They have been rep for everything I got from them and it's always been fresh US stock.

A word though, most of those smaller NY based camera shops are bad news. Not only have I read the horror stories I know a few photogs that got burned by then cause they didn't know better. Alot of what they sell is bait and switch, or they don't actually have it, b stock or grey market. Buyer Beware.

Folks, I picked up the 7D. I went to Best Buy. Although I saw cheaper offers online, or eBay my impulsiveness took over and just went to the store, simple and easy. I also know what lenses I want to get. I am going with he tokina 11-16mm 2.8 and Tamron 17-50mm 2.8. then the next thing is a few closer primes, but this 28-135mm kit lens should be fine for closeup and tight shots.

just as important I have to adapt my letus zacuto rig for the dslr, so ill need to sell off and by a few more items in that area. this is looking good.

That's great news pumatrax! Tom and Kay I hear ya, and normally I only purchase from very trusted sources. But in my case I made out big time. I had a great paying gig on the horizon and needed the camera, but only had a little money to work with. My camera's USA warranteed and insured through my company. Like I said knowing is half the battle. In this case $200.00 was the difference between working a great gig and not working it. Now I can afford my new Kessler pocket jib:-)
