7D vs XHA1 Query

Here’s my dilemma….
I’m currently shooting with two XHA1’s and a 7D. I don’t have any great lenses yet and am toying with the idea of selling one of my A1’s and picking up another 7D or MKII and a decent lens.
I do a lot of live event coverage and am worried that the 15 min max on the 7D will be a huge drawback. What do you guys think? Keep the A1 or toss it to the wind in favor of a new DSLR?
-Thanks

sorry to say Than...but you are the best person to answer this. while the 7d is good for some situations...it sucks for others. I still duno how those wedding guys do it..but they do and do it well. I know i wouldnt attempt that. However for more controlled stuff then its a winner. Comes down to what u shoot and how you'll use it. but i dont think the 12 min max is much of a prob if u have 3 cameras.

Completely agree. I was hoping someone who's used the 7D for events could shed some light on getting around its setbacks.
I’ve found myself bypassing the A1 in more and more situations. My only hold up is the nagging thought that I’ll have to start/stop every 12 minutes during a 2 hour+ shoot.

I currently use both. Different tools for different purposes. On my current project (www.theunderdogsdoc.com), I use a mix of the two cameras, the A1 being used for interviews and documentary footage, with the 7d catching the more creative/filmic shots. Since the footage from the two look so different, rather then trying to match them, I have been exaggerating the contrast to give two very different looks in the project.
I know that doesn't really answer the questions, but while I could live with just the A1 if I had to, I couldn't live with just the 7d. Just too many caveats at this point.

true words. My dvx is in use for documentary stuff i do. my 7d is more for commercials and music videos. If i can afford an AF100 then that will take over from teh dvx.

bkatcher- seriously great doc! love the feel. fantastic intro and gorgeous shots. what'd you use for the light leaks/rollouts? very nicely executed.
I'm not really seeing a way around the current limitations of the DSLR :/ The A1 has been good for long live stuff. The 7D is just so great for all things within it's time limit....
