So, this is not a terribly scientific test, but I was curious. I got a Drift Innovation HD170 to add to my bag of cameras and after looking at some footy thought I would compare it to the 7D.
First off. Here is raw some test footy. Thats me the retard with the camera strapped to my head. Trying some whips to see CMOS jello, not too bad:

Anyway, I thought that looked great for a helmet/action camera for $329 and thought I would compare to the 7D. Here are two stills from the test footage.

The framing isn't a perfect comparison at all. But, too my eyes at least without the nasty aliasing the HD170 has the edge in resolution, and about equal sharpness. Obviously, it doesnt have sexy shallow DOF and has less DR too, but it was designed for strapping to your head and jumping off a bridge, and is $329. My "test chart" was printed high res on an inkjet, and isnt a real chart, you can see some jaggies on the right from printing. The softness in the lemur is edge softness from the Tokina. In comparison, the HD170's 170 degree fisheye lens looks pretty sharp at the edges in 1080p mode.
I do have a discount code for HD170's from mypov360.com, so I should mention that. It's at the bottom of my article.
