7D + Tokina 16-50mm ƒ/2.8 Problems

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else acquired this lens and is using it with the 7D because I'm having problems with this lens (no other lenses) with the 7D in live view or video mode. If I adjust the aperature to 2.8 in video mode, it starts to freak out, and the lens (aperture?) motor starts whining over and over again, as if it's trying to get to ƒ/2.0 or something. I'm gonna return it to Tokina, but I'm wondering if this is a problem with all zooms with video mode, or just Tokina brand lenses, or this lens specifically.

Thanks ahead of time for replying!!

I have a Tokina 17-50mm 2.8 on my 7D. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, everything works just fine..

Does it make a little sound when changing the aperture in video mode? Like as if you could here the motor or aperture blades make a "ver" noise? On my primes, in video mode, when I change the f-stop, it's absolutely silent, but not with the Tokina, but it may be just because it's a bum lens. Thanks for the extra help. You response will help me wade through this problem with the manufacturer a lot faster.

Im also running the tokina 11-16mm on my 7d with no problems at all so sounds like it might be a lens issue

@drewmaw: It makes a little "click". That's everything.

@emp: it looks stunning!

Beautiful image!! Does any of your tokina lenses make a little clicking sound in video mode when changing aperture? or is it completely silent?

Have you ever had the problem i've suggested though? Like, when lowering it 2.8 in video mode, that it sounds like it's trying to get to like f2.0?

I've got the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 and when I change the aperture in video mode, I can hear the motor changing the aperture, though when I go to 2.8, I'm not getting any strange noise like you mentioned. I'd definitely get a swap.

I have the 11-16 tokina and yeah, when you change aperture it makes the same sound when hunting focus.

all the big guys are out of the 11-16 here in the states. i've been hunting for a used one for a long time, but i guess ill just have to go new when they get back in stock.

FYI - on Canon's stock 28-135mm lens, we get the same whining sound when the Image Stabilization is turned on. Even with the camera locked down on the tripod, the lens seems to do a lot of vibration.

Good luck, Michael

Ok, I sent my lens in to be fixed, they sent it back to me in two days! It works perfectly now! Great job Tokina!
