7D recording live audio from Zoom H2

I mounted my zoom H2 to my 7d using hot shoe attachment and ran a 3.5mm cable from 7d mic jack to H2 line in/headphones jack. is it better to record this way? is the surround sound H2 mic better than the 7d mic?

I haven't tested everything yet. I know i cant adjust leveling with this type of direct connection but still want to use a better mic than the 7d has.

thanks

Why?

Why?

The audio you get from the H2 will probably be better than the 7D mic. Use that as your master - sync it to the camera audio track in post.

Also, if you can mount it somewhere other than on the camera you'll get better quality (less camera, operator noise).

So are you saying have the H2 plugged in to 7d and also record sound on the H2 in case i want to use and synch H2 track with footage?

thats a good idea.

I hope the 3.5mm cable you are running from the zoom to the camera is attenuated/padded as the h4 puts our line level output and the camera takes in mic level input. You can overload it.
