7D RAW once again?

So they are saying it would be a firmware update and not a new camera. Uncompressed out of the HDMI jack.

Are there drives that can mount on top of the camera and record footage out of the HDMI jack like this or are you stuck tethered to a computer?

I am sure that it wouldnt be any different than the way RED outputs... Just mount the drive on my shouldermount... My only concern is what NLE will support this new Canon video RAW... RED has REDCINE X for one light editing and also to export to every other format one could need... So will there be patches for FCP3 or what... come on canon do it up this is what I have been dreaming about for ever... Also will it be APS-C full sensor RAW as in 5K?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

That's written pretty vaguely. Granted, it is a rumor.

I'm not sure if they're talking about a true RAW format or simply something like uncompressed 4:2:2 video. If it's really just a firmware solution, then my guess would be the latter.

I could care less as long as we can move away from the H.264 and possibly get closer to the DR of the still side of the cam

I can promise you that it most certainly will not be.

lol I didnt think so but the saying stays the same... " I can only wish...." as long as it is 1080p (hopefully scaled from full sensor 5K) or possibly 2K (which is a number I saw from Canon somewhere) I will be more than content...

New Pro Camcorder?

New Pro Camcorder?

I am not sure if this rumor has been posted here yet- from canon rumors.

Word for Word Email
I have witnessed the testing of a new canon video DSLR here in Europe.

To keep it short: the prototype is far from being close to production. There are issues with moire (due to line skipping?). The chip itself is sealed, but the image results look very similar to a 7d. Its also the same type of moire (!) as with the 7d. Canon obviously is aware of that problem and wants to test another chip later this year (newly developed?). The body looks pretty similar to a XL 2 (with EF Mount) but maybe thats for camouflage reasons.
According to a statement from a Canon rep Canon wants to “achieve Red one 2K Quality for roughly half the price of a ready-to-use Red one” (clearly more expensive than a Red Scarlet). No AF. For now recording has been done via HDMI to a nanoflash recorder from convergent design since the new Canon codec (4:2:2) has not yet been implemented into this prototype.
CR’s Take
I am not a video guy, that’s why I just posted the email. I am learning pretty rapidly though.
