7D RAW files CR2

i am having the hardest time uploading my RAW CR2 files with iphoto.. I updated with the newest 8.1.1 update and it says on apple that it is supported but still does not recognize

any clue what to do ?

The only programs I can get the files to work with are adobe products.
It is strange.
