7D or HVX200

True, the list does go on and on lol

From what you stated, I think you'll be fine with the T2i. I'd also opt for the 50mm 1.4 instead of the 1.8 (better in low light)

True, but does the difference in price justify "wasting" your budget on it, when there are other things like sound that still need consideration?
I even see 2.8s as sensitive enough for VDSLRs and if your main interest isn´t documentary filming in nightclubs, you will add some lights to your scenes anyways sonner or later (if only ultracheap china balls...)
And is a 50mmas the only lens really the best starting point on a camera with a 1.6 crop...?
80mm is nice for that portrait look, but if you are shooting anything indoors, moving backwards isn´t possible most of the time... my 2c.

It's funny, I was just in a discussion over on HV20.com and I realized that they have so much invested in adapters and whatnot that they seem to be afraid to learn and move on. The whole point is how can we achive a great image without spending thousands and thousands but not get stuck along the way. 5D then the 7D now the 2Ti then something even better and cheaper. All have their issues but all cameras have and we work around them. The bang for the buck is without a doubt the 2Ti...now whether the price differance between that and the HVX justifies the advantages/limitations is kind of a personal matter. For me it's a no brainer, I simply can't justify the expense of the HVX given the lovely imge the 2Ti will bring and using that extra money for other nessesities.

If you want to make films, get three fairly inexpensive lenses:

nikon 28mm f2
nikon 50mm f1.4
nikon 85mm f2 or f1.4

for making FILMS they murder any AF lens.
For stills you probably want something with autofocus

Camera bodies come and go. good glass goes a lot longer.

He's damn right about those three lenses. Get them while you still can. I got two out of 3 of them for pretty cheap, but once people start to catch on I feel it will drive the prices up sooner or later. When I was a photog all I cared about were AF zooms. Things have changed now with these HDSLR's alot of cool old school glass is out there.

I use some 50 year old M42 primes:
28mm 1.7
50mm 1.2
105mm 1.7

Beautiful image quality, smooth focus rings if I focus while recording. The adapter was only $5 on ebay. Never used Nikon glass but I have heard nikkor lenses are some of the best.

I was at the store today, and they told me that if I were to get the Nikon lenses on the camera, the electronics on the lens would not work and that it is not worth it, just get the Canon 50mm 1.4 instead of the Nikon.

I just bought the Canon T2i & the Canon 50mm f/1.4... I got a big deal off of everything I purchased.

Thanks guys.

I haven't gotten to use it yet. Just had it for a few minutes, but just looking over it, it is awesome! The jello is meh, but what you going to do. Not as bad as I thought.
