7D 7d mk ii doesn’t respect auto shutoff disable in webcam use

Hi all,

I’m trying to use my 7d mk ii as a webcam. I’ve set auto shutoff to disabled already. I’m using a dummy battery (bought 2, in fact, in case the first one was defective). I’m NOT using Canon’s webcam utility, though. I’m using the HDMI out and running that to an ATEM Mini hdmi switcher.

Is there a different setting I’m missing?

I can force it on by using a remote shutter release and keeping the shutter down, but that doesn’t feel like the right way to do it.

Oh, I also upgraded to the newest firmware.

Thanks!

This is one of Canon's models that still has the screen turnoff even if "Auto power off" is disabled.

I’m pretty sure I’m not getting 30min. So if the screen turns off, the shutter shuts and stops streaming video?

Possibly, IDK for sure. But Canon cameras are infamous for random quirks like that.

If the setting is definitely disabled (sometimes people click settings but leave the menu without setting them) then there's nothing else.

My next troubleshooting step would be to try it with regular Canon LP-E6 batteries and Canon's own software to rule out any anomalies.

Maybe also check the HDMI settings and see if it has its own 'auto power off' setting.

Ok, I’ll try that.

Yeah, my little Sony RX100 mk iii is running circles around the big ol’ 7d mk ii as a webcam.
