GIANT killer

hey everybody,
i'm new to shooting video with a dslr (previously had dvx100B). i just have a few quick questions about my new canon 7d.

is it better to shoot video with RAW or JPEG?

when to use, and not use highlight tone priority?

if you are shooting 24p its best to haver your shutter at 1/50, right?

thanks in advance, and i'm sorry for my ignorance.

There is no Raw or JPEG for video, its all H.264 (you will want to convert to an editing format such as apple pro-res for mac or something else for windows). Raw or JPEG applies to stills only.

Again something for stills

Yes, for 24p always keep your shutter speed at 50

This is going to cause problems if you shoot under ballasted light sources such as fluorescents, HMIs, sodium-vapor or mercury vapor lights (such as streetlights and stadium lights).

It'll cause rolling fluttering waves in the footage.

It's much better to stick to 1/60th, which should prevent this issue from ever happening (in NTSC territories). If in PAL territories, go ahead and use 1/50th.

yeah, i thought so too. i noticed a difference between the shadows when i did a quick test.

I use it in a lot of my shots. It makes grading in post easier...

...however, you will want a cinematography buff to comment further. I'm not going to pretend I have fully wrapped my head around the 7D's workings. I've only had mine for 3.5 months.
